While clearing the house, so I can get some building work done I have found a large speaker.

It's a Fane Accoustics 18" 150w 8ohm speaker with a Coil Dia of 3" and a flux density(?) of 20.000.  Its from around circa 1977 or before, and used to sit inside a huge bin unit.

It's going free to a good home as I dont want to just chuck it out.  If anyone has any ideas as to what can be done with it if no one wants it, please also PM me!

I have a paragon (what??) nylon strung cutaway guitar I need to get rid of.
It's had a bridge repair but it plays really nice.
It has a pick up which may need reseating.
anyway, this would be a good starter guitar for a youngster who may give up after a few months
thats why i want just 25 quid for it

                                         SOLD

Excellent first guitar (or second, or third......) - better build quality than a Squire (and better sound!) nice and warm on neck pickup, punchy using both (great on overdrive, but the bridge pickup! that signature telecaster sound - great for those country licks!). Only selling because I want a Danelectro U2
Olly,

Gone, Finished, Sold, No Longer Available, Move on.  Nothing to see here now............

Tanglewood TW28 SN for sale. About 2 or 3 years old, and well used. Plays well and would make a good first guitar. A few dints in the top, but nothing to worry about, just surface scratches. Entry level Dreadnought. In satin natural. Quality arched solid spruce top.  Multiple celluloid bound, tapped body.  Mahogany neck, matt. Oval shaped, rosewood fingerboard.  Rosewood Bridge. Compensating saddle. Chrome stepped tuning button. Yours, with a large Gator hard (and it really is hard) case for £100. Please e-mail me if you are interested.

Flightcased Ashdown ABM 1 x 15 cabinet if anyone fancies it.

In my dining room currently and pissing of my wife severely.  It's listed on eBay for £395 on 'Buy It Now', but I need to get rid, so a sensible offer would be welcome, either via eBay 'Best Offer' basis, or by PM on TAW.

Thanks

Due to an oversized guitar collection (is that possible?) am selling at Cropredy a budget end but stylish and easys playing Cheetah EA bass. Realised too late that I am happier with six strings rather than four!
Paid £95 for it and it is as new and hardly played. Will accept £60. Am taking it to Croppers, so anyone interested, please PM me or post.
Hope this is not against TA etiquete

Edit: Move along, nothing to see here.  It's gone.  It's sold.  You can't have it.

iMac G4 17" (can be run as a dual screen setup - which i use for running logic pro). 1Ghz, 512mb ram, 80GB HD, mac OSX 10.4.11 (in its original box!)
runs well - comes with logic express 7 (i am keeping pro because i need the dongle!) and various VST plugins - no original discs included.
Also with it is my much loved Tascam us-428 audio interface/control surface - more info http://www.tascam.com/products/us-428.html

This is a great little setup for some one, great way into home recording. its time for me to get some more equipment with my first band recording coming up in a couple of months.

£250 the lot - collection from oxfordshire/banbury area.

any questions just ask!
Thanks, Olly.

Edit: I said it's gone.  Not available.  Finished.  Sold.  It's not going to be yours, so stop looking at it.  Move along, please

Currently undergoing restoration ( whilst dodging dogs and restoring ukes and fiddles ) is this very pretty 3/4 german cello. All maple construction, new soundpost fitted and adjusted, rosewood fingerboard and nut. When i got it it was covered in boyzone stickers from some tasteless bastard, and chipped and abused. I have stripped it and sanded it by hand.

Anyone interested pm or mail me then you can choose your finish. I will be using spirit varnish that i have made myself from various colour shellacs, spike oil, dammar resin and alcohol. This process will ensure it has a rich earthy tone as most string instruments have solid rosin based sugary varnish which stops the wood breathing.  I have finishes in mahogany/garnet/ golden and oak type colours. There will be approx 15 layers added and sanded then added again until the colour and sound is right.

I have sanded out the chips and removed the nasty varnish and painted purfling. The wood is good quality with no splits or previous repairs or cleating.

It will come with new strings and properly fitted pegs. No bow or case but you can pick one up on ebay cheap enough.

It is a beauty and to be honest if it doesnt go i will not cry because i am already in love with it ;D

Price negotiable but don't take the piss :)

Here`s one I put on e-bay,
White Stratocaster copy inspired by guitars of Ritchie Blackmore & Yngwe Malmsteen.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Scalloped-fingerboard-Strat-style-guitar_W0QQitemZ180306291944QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item180306291944&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

I also have a black David Gilmour style Strat copy for £120, a natural butterscotch Tom Delonge style Strat copy with Seymour Duncan JB for £140 and a reworked Squier Telecaster with neck humbucker for £150. All are built from new or recyled e-bay purchases and are in effect, new instruments. All guitars have had frets levelled, recrowned and polished and tremolos where fitted are modified for improved return to tune and reduced string breakage.

Hi all

I'm selling one of these - http://www.epiphone.com/default.asp?ProductID=50&CollectionID=6

Bought, in a fit of madness - whilst I had an annual bonus burning a hole in my pocket, and having seen Gary Moore live & playing a 'real' antique Gibson version - about 2 years ago from Dawsons in Manchester.  They are now discontinued - but are a well respected and positively reviewed guitar - and I'm selling mine, only because a) I don't play it, and b) my lady wife insists I get rid of some of the musical stuff which is filing up my office at home.

It has been out of the case about 6 times and is immaculate - with a Hiscox case.

Cost £349 + £79 for the case.

It should be played - it's a lovely guitar and sounds fantastic ( check out this guy on YouTube : http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CJlDDckBqeo).

I have pictures which I will share with any interested parties - please IM me.

I'm looking for a sensible offer from a good home!

Just what you want for your Xmas stocking!!!!!

Thanks

IM

Hello, musos!

One pair of good quality Meinl wooden congas, 10" and 11", are up for grabs. They are in perfect playing condition and have only a few scratches in the varnish - see photos.

Buyer collects from West Dartmoor, I'm looking for offers in the region of 60 quid (to include a cuppa on collection  8-)  ).

Hello fellow pickers & pluckers

I'm reduced to operating a one-in one-out policy with my unfeasibly large instrument collection.Or move to a bigger house, hmmm there's a thought

Anyway to make room for 2 new arrivals I'm prepared to kiss goodbye to these

A Countryman octave mandolin, or maybe a mandola. The freeted string length is 20.25 inches in old money. It tunes from the top down A-D-G-C  It's in good nick, totally acoustic, plays well and deserves a better mando technique than I possess. I'd be swayed by offers approaching £100

A very cool Maholo Flying-Vee ukulele in black with a white matching shaped gig bag. Mint condition. £20 ono

I'll sell separately or for a discount if someone buys both

I can't figure out how to attach pictures. If anyone is interested PM me and I'll email you a photo

Hi all,

I have for sale a Vintage Mixer.(this is not a mixer/amp!)

MM Electronics 8/2. Tatty, as you can see, but it works OK. This could be run as a four output stage monitor mixer, buy running 8 channels from line out on a main mixer, mixing to Pan rt, Pan left, aux out, and reverb out, then into powered monitors (not included).

£50.00, buyer collects from Worthing

As I'm setting up my new business, I'm having a rationalisation of various bits and bobs that I and my family have at the moment.  To this end I have the following up for sale...

An Apple iMac G4 17" 1GHz, 512Mb RAM, 80Gb hard disk, MAC OSX 10.4.11 - previously owned by ollythedolly (as per message above) and bought for my daughter by me last Autumn.  It's in the same Fine condition it was when it came from Olly.  Comes loaded with Logic Express 7 and Microsoft Office.

Tascam US-428 Digital Audio Workstation (that came with the Apple from Olly).  Been used once, and then stored since the Autumn.  Prior to that it was being used virtually every day and I am quite confident is in full working order.  Comes with software, power cable and a 3 page list of commands.

Zoom H2 Handy Digital Recorder.  Quite simply awesome little handheld recorder but much under-utilised by me.  Recorded three live concerts (I got permission before anyone fancies a dig!) and six interview in the 15 months I've had it.  Boxed (but plastic insert now missing) and literally As New.  Comes with all accessories (most not opened) and 512Mb SD card (you'll probably need a 2Gb or 4GB SD card).

Wisper 605f Folding Bike with bag.  Not a lot of use in the wilds of North Wales if truth be told, which is why I've bought a decent Mountain Bike!  Done about 50 miles in total in the 2 years I've owned her (from New).  Wisper now specialise in quality electric bikes (inc folding ones) but are a quality outfit making quality bikes.   Full spec can be seen here http://www.electricbikeworld.co.uk/site/models/605.htm

All of these four items are being listed on eBay tonight between 20:00 and 21:00, but if you are interested in a private sale and want further info / pictures, please feel free to drop me a line.

Danke!

The job hunting situation is pretty dire, and if I'm going to have ANY money over summer at all, I've got to start thinking of selling stuff.

I've got two pairs of these (ie. Two Pairs with Matching Datestamps).  I'm going to get them priced up for postage tomorrow, and maybe stick them on Ebay.  Can anyone advise what a good price would be (thinking at least £150+) for the pair?  Does anybody want them? (They are neither pretty nor folky).

This is the first pair.

1969 G12H Celestion Greenbacks

30w, 16Ω, BR=75Hz

Original Coils and Cones.  Mechanically and musically sound.  1 Dust Cover detached (but included).

Cheers,

Neil

Watford Valves are selling G12Hs for £75 each (www.watfordvalves.com) and they won't be matched pairs and won't be 1969s.  So I reckon you must be in the right ball park at £150 and probably a bit light.

Title: Re: For Sale and Wanted
Post by: Neil Morrell on June 07, 2009, 08:39:14 PM
Actually - I read the date codes wrong.  It was soon pointed out that they are '73s - not '69s.  >:(

Still pretty old though.  However, not all G12H's are equal - I'm beginning to find out there are dozens of different types as well.

And apparently, the new ones are, like everything else these days, Made in China.

70's models seem to sell singularly on eBay for between £30 and £35, so maybe they aren't the crock of gold I was hoping for.

They do go for a small fortune in the US - especially in pairs.  However, the postage would be crippling!!

Please can you post the ebay link so we can post some pointless questions, such as "have you had them from new?" or the usual "will you ship to Mongolia?"  or "can I plug my guitar straight into these speakers or do I need an amplifier?" or "Do they take a normal 13amp three pin plug?"

Good luck with the sale Prof. ;)

Are you sure that the Stagg is electro? That pickup looks more like a magnetice one than a piezo one.

I always find the action on a Martin high and stiff, although there's not much that matches them for sound.  The pricier Takamines are well worth a look, Bill, ie. £600+.

Billy, the best Martin sounding guitars I have tried are the high end freshmans which are beautiful but also Guild Dreadnoughts. Infact really I think  Guild are almost on a par with their own quality and not rediculously priced.

To be honest we could name drop a thousand guitars and you wont know any better till you go out and try them. It's to everyones taste. Matt R from Union Circus lovs his Larivee but their neck is a little too wide for me. Taylors are too clinically good if you know what I mean as are some martins, although some martins have a naughtiness about them which attracts me i.e. their depth of bass is going to give the sound egineer something to sweat over. If budget is an issue though you don't need to despair as there are some great guitars out there. My main guitar now is a low end Takemine and it is lovely. It really does play like a £800 guitar.

Well, I guess it was bound to happen. I haven't been able to spend enough time playing my drums, so feel that the space in our bedroom could be better utilised.

And we could do with a bit of extra money.

So, rather than slap it up on eBay, I thought I'd put it here first, in case anyone is keen to take up the drums, or just wants a really good set of electric drums that sound just like the real thing.

They are Roland TD6K drums (the "K", I think means it can use dual triggers) with all rubber pads, except for the snare which is an 8" mesh pad with rimshot. There is also a Premier kick pedal, a hi-hat pedal and a professional mesh drum stool. This would normally sell for about a grand (http://www.4-drums.co.uk/acatalog/Electronic_Kits.html) not including the stool. Oh, and I'll chuck in a few pairs of nylon tip drumsticks too.

It's in mint condition, but you'll need to pick it up from Essex if you want it (in exceptional circumstances I might be able to deliver). Any reasonable offers, please let me know.

I am looking out for an english concertina.. new or old.. one thats been in an attic for 20 years would be ideal  ;D

If anyone has one or knows someone who does, and would like to sell, please let me know!

An english concertina has a little thumb strap (not a full hand strap - thats an anglo concertina), a metal plate for the little finger and quite often a large number of buttons on both sides.  It may have wood or metal ends.

Thanks!

Before they go on eBay I'm selling a four piece Sonor Force 3007 kit, no snare. It's in excellent nick, sounds very nice is all maple and has served me well. After yesterday's craziness I am selling to raise funds to keep the wolves from Barclaycard at bay.

The kit comprises a 22 x 18 inch bass drum and 3 toms in a 2 up 1 down formation at 12, 13 and 16" respectively. It's honey amber coloured. Floor tom complete with legs, rack toms with bass drum mounts so it's all ready to play. Would definitely suit anyone wishing to venture into maple. Depending on where you are we could come to an arrangement about collection/delivery. I'm looking for about £325. I'll try and find a pic.

And hey, in the unlikely event that Circus Envy make it big, you can say that you've got the drum kit used to record the first album.

Cheers

Mick

Still selling my Roland TD6k drums. Haven't put them on eBay yet as I haven't had the time, though almost identical kits have been going at about £700 (it's worth at least a grand), and the Yamaha professional stool is worth at least £100 second hand too.

Will need to pick up from Essex, and looking for offers in the region of £500 without the stool, and £550 with.

It's in perfect nick, and comes with an almost new mesh snare.

Hi All,

I have decided that i never use my 12 string guitar, :'( and offer it for sale. It is an EKO Jumbo, that i have had for about 35 years :o

I am trying to fund a new Mic for live work.

Edit: Hot linked images removed. Colin

It has a repair to the machine head, which was there when i got it...and is quite stable

It is showing a crack at the bridge,(between the White pegs), but this also seems to be stable,

And i discovered it has a small ding on the rear...

It also requires a good clean!

It is obviously not worth a fortune ::), but does sound nice and full. Any offers  ?

I wouldn't like to post it, so any prospective buyer would have to collect, or arrange it to travel via mutual friends/folk network

Please PM me if you are interested

All the best,

Dave

I'm wanting to sell full size double bass and bow with carry case. Perfect condition apart from a bit of dust (the dust is from it only ever being played a couple of times). Would need to be collected from sheffield.  Looking for offers of @£250. If anyone wants an electric violin would sell both together for £300

I have a Richwood Bazouki for sale, it's similar to the ozark, hudson, trinity college, ashbury type.
Far east made with solid spruce top, dark stained maple (not solid) back'n'sides and a stained maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, decent sealed tuners. Pics available on request.
It's in good condition without any scratches or dings.
I'm in Swansea, S.Wales and would be looking for £120ono including a decent tribal planet padded gig bag.
I can post at the buyers expense here's my ebay feedback http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=paganskins&ftab=AllFeedback
I can put the sale through ebay for the buyers protection if necessary.

Hi

I'm planning to build one of these as a winter project : http://www.buildyourguitar.com/resources/lapsteel/

I need a few bits, and conscious that there are a few collectors and builders/customisers on here, I wondered if anyone has any of the following they would like to exchange for some good old fashioned cash?

A single coil pick up - tele or strat style would seem to do well.

A bridge - the plans suggest a Les Paul junior style, but as long as one can adjust the strings to a flat profile (for the 'steel'), I'm thinking it should be okay.

A set of tuners - LP style 6 x single would seem appropriate.

I've had a look on ebay, and there are plenty available, but I'm just looking for something cheap and cheerful for the prototype, before I build something in a more exotic wood, with better parts.

Have a scour around your workshop/shed and let me know.

Thanks

Hi Ian

I can let you have a couple of strat single coils.  They are a neck and middle pickup from a 70's Japanese Strat copy.  They are not bad.  YOU  might as well have both of them as you will have a spare if you bugger one up.  I think I have the pots with them, which you can have as well.  If you PM me your address and are prepared to cover postage* you can have them for nothing :D

SWMBO will be very pleased for me to reduce my collection of supposedly useless bits and bobs.

* Or buy me a pint at Cropredy next year.

Steve

Encore Electro Acoustic.
Good first guitar/acoustic with pickup if someone wants to be louder! It has a piezo under the saddle with a 2 slider EQ (volume & tone).
The saddle isn't the original - It didn't have one when I bought it a few years back and fitted this one, it could be a better fit, but it works! I have mainly kept this in alternative tunings, to save time when playing different things!
There are a few scratches/bumps, but nothing that is serious or affects the sound/playability of this guitar.
It currently has a set of Martin SP mediums on it, but they could do with a change.
Prefer if it was picked up...offers around £50?

Hello All,

I am looking for a mandolin (right handed) or a violin (full size) within a student budget. It's my final year at Uni and I have some tricks up my sleeve but finding it hard to get hold of the instruments relatively cheap. If anyone knows where would be a good place to look or indeed has one they want to get rid of please let me know.

I am also looking for an acoustic 4 string bass (right handed) for around £50-70, doesn't matter if it's not a very good one, it's for a friend who is learning and just wants to mess about on it and see if it's for her - must be acoustic though please :)

Thanks very much,

TG x

I was going to suggest the guntree (or some such local institution) for a violin. If you buy secod hand you can usually find something a bit better than the plasticy things you can buy cheaply from music shops & there is usually no shortage of people selling them. Good luck  :)

Hi asaunders. Welcome to the forum.  :) Do have a poke around and join in with the discussions: we're mostly harmless.  ;)

I tried a Seagull parlour in the Music Room tent at Shrewsbury Folk Festival in 2008 and I must have sat there for at least 20 minutes just playing it. If this fleaBay example is anything like the one I played, you will have many happy hours with it. Looks like a reasonably price too.  :)

I don't think you can really go wrong with seagull. As has been said, they are the budget range from the guys who make Simon and Patrick I believe. I would just say thatif £400 is your budget, have a look around. Tanglewood are doing some amazing guitars at that price and I would be surpised if you couldn't get hold of a second hand Simon and Patrick for that price as well.

Lovely little mandolin, solid spruce top, maple back and sides, pearl drop or 'A' shape. Very ornate mother of pearl inlays on fretboard, bindings and rosette, and lovely figure of maple on the back. I bought this on Ebay for £400 2 years ago, and have been gigging it regularly with my folk band Mawkin Causley. Nice full tone, selling due to me buying a Fylde Touchstone Mandolin (£670) so need capital quickly!

Lovely little thing, a few blemishes on the brass tailpiece due to sweating on it! but other than that in lovely condition, brand new machineheads!

Comes with gig bag.

I'm thinking of biting the bullet and learning to play a 20 button anglo concertina - should I go second hand / ebay, or am I best in buying a new scarlatti or similare from Hobgoblin?

Also how easy / hard are they to learn, I currently strum a few guitar chords and can pick out a tune on the recorder at a pinch  :)

Is it for morris or Irish style? I found G/D (morris) tuning virtually unobtainable on ebay, but plenty of C/G around.

ahh, maybe I'll be better off just getting a tin whistle then - keep it easy. Any recommendations here for good make whistles, what key etc  for accompanying Morris - as part of a band anyway?

DW

I'd stick with concertina David. C/G Anglo is the most common concertina used for Morris. Most tunes are in G if you are playing along with a melodeon. It is possible to play in D on an anglo with a bit of practice - all the notes are there. At the end of the day, I expect playing the 'tina would be more rewarding than the whistle, albeit more expensive. Also, personally, I don't think the whistle is a great instrument for Morris.

Or, you could get a melodeon. You could try and find a second hand Pokerwork on fleaBay, or you could go for the Scarlatti Nero - http://www.hobgoblin.com/local/GR4205-p-Scarlatti-Nero-DG,-218-keys-Page.htm which is just a cheap, but also a reasonably good instrument.

If you did fancy an anglo concertina David, by far the best starter box is the 30 key Rochelle in C/G, best UK price I can find is at The Box Place (http://www.theboxplace.co.uk/purchase/Rochelle/prod_22.html).

If a melodeon appeals at all The Music Room have new Hohner Pokerworks (http://www.themusicroom-online.co.uk/product_info.php/cPath/244_249_485/products_id/641) on special this weekend. A D/G model would be best for morris.

Tony Dixon (http://www.tonydixonmusic.co.uk/) makes nice mid priced whistles, one in D and another in low G would probably best suit your needs (a standard pitch G whistle annoys bats!).

Hi there,

a handmade Fylde for sale!

It's a 2007 model in immaculate condition - I've only had it a matter of months and were I not to have a more sentimentally valued Martin, would be keeping it. However, needs must and someone else gets lucky!

It has a Fishman Rare Earth professionally fitted and has just had the action adjusted by Pete Barton.

I've played it live once and it sounded great, I've recorded it professionally and, again, the sound - particularly considering it's smaller size - is amazing. The balanced bass that it generates is fantastic. But I'm sure, if you're up on your Fyldes, this is information you already know!

I've just done a quick recording; part 1: standard tuning, plectrum; part 2: standard tuning, finger picked; part 3: DADGAD, plectrum - just so you can get a bit of a sense of the sound - albeit with new strings!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2901997/fylde.mp3
no EQ, about a foot from the mic [AT3035] straight into garageband, no mixing.

Asking price is £1100 - but open to sensible offers. [save you a Google-search, they're £1650 new without a pickup.] I am willing to ship but would prefer collection for peace of mind! I'm in Yorkshire, by the way.

Thanks for checking it out, any questions or more pictures, give me a shout.

Ben.

The first completed e-mando in a series of signature inspired Almuse mandolins, this Les Paul style 8 string based on the Gary Moore BFG is of sapele construction with smoothly finished carved flame maple top (unlike the ghastly rough sculpted Gibsons) and rosewood fingerboard.
Finish is 50% sheen satin nitrocellulose.
Controls are typical Les Paul (kill switch not really effective on a mandolin)and the pickups are a single coil neck pickup 5.6k....same spec as the MB8 a 7.4k Classic humbucker in the bridge position.
Neck depth at nut - 20mm, width, 27mm. Mean string spacing at bridge 12mm. Action nice and low...around 1.2mm at 12th fret.Good range of tone - hard treble on bridge pickup to jazzy/mellow neck and all points between.
Further images available - http://www.thewuffler.f9.co.uk/BFG/
£399.00 GBP + shipping

I'm selling a 30 button Sutherland C/G anglo which I bought from a friend last year, but simply haven't had the time to get to grips with. With money getting tight, I've had to make the decision to sell and concentrate on the melodeon instead. It's the same (just re-badged, I think?) as the metal-ended Stagi sold at Hobgoblin, or the Acoustica at the Musicroom. No case, and I've replaced the straps with some new, more solid ones. I'd like £250 for it, but open to sensible offers. Can get some photos up if anyone's interested, or it'll be up on ebay once I've figured out how to do it!

Ashbury Octave Mandola, a few years old but pretty much as new. Has a lovely deep sound, not at all tiny like some bouzoukis. Also, being an octave mandolin, it has a shorter scale length so it's easier to play tunes. They retail new at £310, I'm looking for £225 ono + P&P. I need to sell this ASAP* and will consider reasonable offers.

I have been helping out at the RSPCA charity shop in Whittlesey, we have had an instrument donated and have been trying to investigate, at first I thought it was a Banjo Ukulele but after googling it found out it is a Banjo Mandolin as has eight strings, no makers name, it is about eight inches wide and 21 inches long.

Lovely dark wood back and a lighter wood on the neck, it looks in good condition to me but I know nothing about these things.

The lady who is the manager took it to the guitar shop round the corner and he has told her to put it for sale at £40.  Just putting info here in case anyone is interested in it.

I have decided I want to buy a Rickenbacker guitar.  However a brand new one is out of my reach.  If anyone has a secondhand one for sale, knows of someone selling one, or has any other leads for my getting hold of a Rick, then please let me know.  I have not yet decided if I want a 6 or a 12 string, so am presently considering both.

Thanks.

Well, the only advantage of second hand is you don't have to suffer the 12-24 month waiting list.

As for prices, second hand they appear to hug pretty tightly to the new prices with little depreciation.

So, good luck with that.

the lad was after a rickenbacker bass and as neil sez they dont depreciate, because they are only made in the states, they use cellulose (or summat) and its use is limited in the usa so they are restricted in the number of guitars they can produce, hence the prices are high and stay high

When attempting to search elsewhere, all I seem to be able to find are links to yet more internet search pages that direct you to eBay listings.  It appears to be an almost total monopoly.   :(

Its a hit and miss affair so far as I have found as searching sites like Gumtree and Friday Ad depend on the wit and wisdom of the person selling in describing the item in a consistent manner as much as the quality of the site's data sorting capability. Which is probably why E-Bay has the apparent monopoly...... Leaving the only option to trawl regularly in the vain hope of finding what you are after, or to post Wanted messages everywhere (not the best way to secure the best price though).

I'm trying to find a copy of a 1999 film "Captain Jack" starring Bob Hoskins, at a sensible price.
It's clearly a bit rare.
Amazon are listing used copies at £24.99, new at an incredible £49

If anyone has an unwanted DVD or VHS I'll gladly swap it for a crisp £10 note (or a couple of beers at the Cropredy bar)

Thanks Jules, VHS duly ordered.

The film is based on a true story from 1992 involving a rogue Whitby seaman called Jack Lammiman taking an illegal trip to some remote Norwegian Artic Island.
A few years earlier myself and a crew from my then workplace on a fishing trip with the same guy in his 1940's 45 foot timber built fishing boat ended up involved in a put up dodgy salvage deal towing a huge broken down Norwegian cargo ship through the night. A long, and dangerous, story but fortunately we all survived to tell the tale.

I've not yet seen the film but am told it's a cracker ! Here's The Independant's article on the film and story from 1993

SORRY
As an infrequent poster it's rather difficult, sometimes impossible, finding ones way about - I looked in The Arms first but couldn't find a suitable topic heading.
Putting Wanted in Search doesn't help either and in the end thought that For Sale and Wanted would have to do.
Should I have started a new topic - "DVD wanted"

I can sympathise with that.  I often can't think which thread to put a post in, and I've been here for a while longer than Pete.

Back on topic: still searching for the Rickenbacker that's right for me.  I have found out that 660/12s (aka the Tom Petty model) have a wider neck than other Ricky 12 strings, so this might be the one for me.  I tried a 360/12 once and boy is the neck narrow for those 12 strings!

I really don't see the point of artificial aged and reliced guitars. The real thing is different though  :)

I used to play with a bass player who's bass was not so much road worn, as hercules worn. He was an ex royal marine bandsman, and had gigged all round the med with it.

Advice needed.

A friend of mine has a 1926 Martin Mandolin (its a model A I think from the brief glimpse I have had of it on webcam) that he inherited from his Grandfather. It appears to be in excellent condition and comes in the original hard case. He has broken a couple of fingers recently and can no longer play, and is thinking of selling it. He is going to send me some photos in the net couple of days and I will know more then.

Does anyone know the value of pre-depression era Martin Mandolins? I know they don't fetch the astronomic prices of Gibson instruments of the same period. Does anyone WANT a piece of American music history?

Mmmm....

I have been looking at the A styles on the net, and from what I saw it could be the koa wood A style (the AK) as it appeared to be too dark to be a spruce top (but he was in a shady room and on a poor quality webcam!) and he says it has a lighter wood backstrip  - that would up the value considerably.

I will know more when I get photos.

I hope Mark can find out all he can via as many routes as possible  [;-)  - I only mentioned that shop because the owner's daughter and my daughter are friends, I've only been in there a couple of times as the guitars are far too beautiful and far too expensive, and therefore it's a bit depressing  ;D

Indeed Rory... the shop has a very good reputation in all respects so this was not a slight on them in any way. My comment was made on the basis that, if Mark's friend was looking to sell the mandolin, then he might get a better deal by dealing with a player rather than a seller.

Having said this, I agree... all options should be considered.

If you know the owners of TAMCO do they let you go in and lick the lovely, lovely shiny things ?  ;D

A mate had an old Vox AC30 in the 70s.  He got rid of it for a 12" square Roland Cube which were very Spandau Ballet and "cool".  Wonder how much the AC30 would be worth today - I'm guessing 50 times the price of a Roland Cube :)

I had an AC30 in the 70s. It used to blow several valves a week. Finally got rid of it in the 80s due to small house and impending child. I now have a Vox Valvetronix, which is not the same. The sad thing is, I do have room for an AC30 now, but I can't lift the damn thing.

For playing bass I have just bought a laney rb3 to use at rehearsals and small gigs, to replace the 100w peavey combo that i can hardly lift and has some noise issues and fading volume problems.

Like wise for guitar i bought a small Fender Fuse guitat combo 18 months ago to replace my aging marshal valvestate, which crackles and loses a channel regulary.

Both probably cost less than repairing the old ones.  Just got to work out what to do with the old ones now.  Apparently they take up too much room and are not shelves. ;D

I'd regret it if it was cheaper.  Or if it had a white scratch plate instead of a gold one.  But it's still going to be about just shy of £1,400 with postage and customs, and I just don't feel confident enough in myself to throw caution to the wind today.

2) A compressor pedal, preferably an MXR?

Thought I'd try here first.

Jules

Dont know if you got the Tweed sorted but I bought my Tweed Deluxe clone from Eli Abbott
He's in Northamptonshire, email me (matt1keen at yahoo.co.uk) if you want contact details
Totally authentic and terrific price - he even gets solid pine tweed cabs rather than birch ply

Interesting.  I hadn't considered getting a clone.  What sort of price are we talking, Matt?

Pine cab was £155
Built amp was 300
I had a Celestion 12 Heritage already to put in it
The result is easily the best amp I have ever had in 30 years
Eli also makes authentic Tweed Champs, Bassmans and A Marshall Bluesbreaker
All hand wired old school stuff
[img][img]
Come and hear it if you like

I am ordering the Marshall next and a mate is getting a Tweed Champ
As his day job Eli works for a very well known amp maker in Northampton

This is probably not the place for it and I don't mind if a Moderator deletes it, but I have a Home Borrower who now wants to sell her Kobo Glo. She's had it about six or eight months and hardly used it - she has mobility difficulties and found it hard to use. She paid about £100 for it, then bought a nice purple cover and a stylus to go with it.

I told her that with the littlest Kobo on sale for about £30 she probably won't get much for it.

Anyway, if anyone's interested let me know and I'll see if she'll accept your offer. At least Kobos are compatible with the DRM system the libraries use for lending free eBooks, which the Kindles aren't.

I have recently been given a contact for someone who has been bequeathed several melodeons a concertina and  2 bodhrans. Their relative was a keen folk musician but they have no use for the instruments and would rather sell them to be used by those who can. They have had everything checked by Hobgoblin in Crawley and been given guide prices. I have copied details below. Please pm me if you are interested or know any one who is.We are based in Fleet,Hampshire.

"My late brother was very involved in folk clubs around SE London and North Kent (he was the founder member of two clubs, both of which are still going strong).  His main instrument was the melodeon, although he started off with a concertina.

There are several instruments which we had valued at Hobgoblin Music in Crawley and the chap there tested each one.

I’ve listed the details below with the values that they gave us.

1.   Dino Baffetti D/G melodeon 2 voice 19 key         £900
2.   Sorrento 24 Bass piano accordion, needs tuning and cleaning   £60
3.   Lachenal 48 key English concertaina 5 fold bellows, raised
   metal ends, steel reeds                  £2250
4.   Weltmeister 3 row melodeon A/D/G needs tuning and cleaning   £500
5.   Hohner Corso melodeon C/C# needs some tuning and cleaning   £350
6.   Hohner Verdi I 48 bass piano accordion, old         £150
8.   Microvox M310 pickup system for melodeon         £70

There are also 2 Bodrans which have a nominal value of c.£15.

If you know of anyone who might be interested I would be happy to hear from them and will consider any reasonable offers. We don’t play them and it’s a shame to have them just lying around.

I have a soft case for a mandolin. Not sure what to ask for it.  I'll take some photos and post them if anyone is interested.  Would probably work with a fiddle or a uke.

All the best

Andie - there's a chap in Trowbridge (Wilts) who provides kits to convert 1/2 size (or 3/4 size) acoustic guitars into bass Ukes (with pickup).  Kits are about £40 - but he makes them too.

So if you have an old, small acoustic anywhere...

I'm selling my Tanglewood elec/acoustic bass guitar - model is TAB.2CD-STO, it has 3-band EQ onboard, jack socket; I put on a new set of strings about 8 months ago, but I've hardly played it since. It's in excellent condition overall - no scratches, marks or cracks.

It comes with a hard Stagg case (with 5 clip fasteners), also a soft gig bag.

I'm looking for about £200-£250 for it, so if you're interested (or know someone who might be), please contact me via PM.

I'd be happy to arrange to meet a buyer halfway rather than risk courier/post!

Cheers
Paul

I've sold my bass - the buyer is a young local guy who is totally into playing and recording - in various configurations/lineups - anything from blues through to his current project of an acoustic jazz/folk/beatboxing hybrid.  I'm so pleased its gone to someone who is so enthusiastic.  ;D

I am trying to raise funds for a good quality guitar, so I am selling an all mahogany Cort L450 guitar for 200 quid and a savannah F style mandolin for 100 quid. The cort comes with a good quality soft case and the Mando has a stagg hard case. The mando has had a professional set up and palys very well, the cort is just lovely especially for blues

Wanted: I'm trying very hard to get a copy of June Tabor's 'On Air' and all the copies I can find are absurdly priced... does anyone know any sites for obscure CDs where I can look, I'm not good at this, most of my collection is direct from the artist or at gigs! Thank you.

The On Air series was very short lived, and I don't think large quantities were pressed. They came out mostly in the 80s/90s and many, if not all, have never been released again by anyone else. I have a few -- not June Tabor - - and I never see most of them unless they're advertised for silly prices. Have you looked already at amazon uk Marketplace Sellers? Or discogs. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

It's not the same record.  The CD includes some Peel sessions, but the vinyl EP is those sessions only.

As far as I can tell, the only way I can find to hear the On Air CD without shelling out a slab of money, is by downloading it.

Oh gosh sorry, I was confusing the Peel Sessions with On Air series (Strange Fruit). You're quite right. And On Air series, was afaik CD only. I remember because I tried to get Woods Band On Air and this was ages ago, and it was unobtainalble. And thankyou Jules for clarification,. At least I was sort of half right.  :-[

I am selling my Yamaha V5 violin. There's an ad on Gumtree if you want all the details or see this web site which is the shop in Morecambe where I bought it a few years back. I've borrowed one of their photos as Mrs B is away with our camera this week and my phone has a rather poor quality one. Send me a message if interested. Can deliver in North Lancs\South Cumbria.

Title: FOR SALE: 1988 Rob Armstring mandocello
Post by: Chris Green on February 15, 2018, 12:22:33 PM
I've reluctantly taken the decision to sell my 1988 Rob Armstrong mandocello. Having taken delivery of a new one from Rob last year, I find myself no longer in need of its services. It has (as you can see) a few honourable scars which is largely down it’s having done hundreds of gigs and having been played pretty much every day. It’s been my main instrument for the last 10 years and I’d really like it to go to someone who’ll play it and love it as much as I have.

It comes with a hard case and K&K Pure Mini pick-up installed. It was set up and some of the more egregious scars on the soundboard were restored towards the end of last year (see photos). A new one will set you back around £2000 and at least a year's waiting time.
The scale length is 640mm and the nut width is 40mm. I currently have it tuned to FCGC but am happy to restring it to GDAD/GDAE (bouzouki tuning) or CGDA (standard mandocello tuning) for a prospective buyer to try.

I'm based in Coventry and you're welcome to come and try before you buy. I'm only really prepared to post via DPD's door-to-door service - but to be honest I'd much prefer to hand it over to the buyer myself rather than entrust it to a courier. I get around the country a fair bit - all my live dates are on the website www.greenmatthews.co.uk as well the odd video/audio of the mandocello in action.

Any questions welcome.

Title: Re: For Sale and Wanted - Swarb's Mics

Swarb's nephew, Simon, has two Neumann microphones for sale that belonged to Swarb. Check out the links below.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dave-Swarbrick-s-Atrax-Studio-Neumann-TLM-103-Microphone-/173637330331

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dave-Swarbrick-s-Atrax-Studio-Neumann-TLM-103-Microphone-/173637355151

These TLM 103 microphones were bought brand new and used by Swarb in his Coventry studio ATRAX from the early 2000s up until his death in 2016. They recorded lauded Albums such as raison d’être, Red Clydeside (Swarb and Alistair Hulett),Live and Kicking (Swarb’s Lazarus), Both Ears and the Tail, Straws in the Wind, (Swarb and Martin Carthy) and many many tunes and songs for other musicians worldwide. Musicians, as well as Swarb, included various members of Fairport Convention, Beryl Marriott, Peggy Seeger, Julie Felix, Bert Jansch, John Kirkpatrick, Kevin Dempsey, etc, etc. This is a whole chunk of Traditional folk music history here! Sold now by the Estate of Dave Swarbrick, October 2018.
There are some dents in one of the mics but it has been tested and works perfectly.

The "senior citizens" uke band I play with is looking to sell a PA amp/speaker combo. Its a Montarbo FiveO Duel.  It's about 4-5 years old, but has only been used in anger (i.e. at gigs) a handful of times, so it's in pretty good condition. We're looking for around £100 for it. I have full details (i.e. an electronic copy of the user manual) if anyone would like more information, but in brief, there's 3 channels: instrument, mic and CD/tape/SD card/USB input - allows playing and singing along to backing tracks. Reverb. Remote controller for the USB/SD player. Comes with a stand. Mains power, with integral battery backup. We're selling it as there's only one band member (me!) who can lift it off the ground - the battery is heavy (man).

Thanks

Paul

I have an Eko Bouzouki for sale, looking for £150 . I don't know much about it's history other than I bought it 2nd hand from a music shop in Sheffield in around 1995, and I've not used it much since. IM for further details / photos if you're interested.
