“I am a close childhood friend of David Longdon’s. It is inaccurate that he died in a car accident. Beyond stating that David’s death was simply a tragic accident and quirk of fate, I will not be commenting further as this is a strictly private matter but would respectfully request that there is no speculation on this subject. David was an amazing talent and an even better man and will be deeply missed by family, friends and the musical community.”

Awful, awful news about David Longdon.

As a fan, I feel numb I can't even imagine what his loved ones must be going through. Sincerest condolences to his family, friends and fellow fans.

RIP David Longdon.

I went to the Anvil in Basingstoke back in 2018 to see Big Big Train's warmup gig for their forthcoming appearance at the Night Of The Prog festival in Loreley, Germany. I knew relatively little about their music at the time, but thoroughly enjoyed the show.

[As an aside, that evening was particularly memorable for me, being the last time I encountered our marvellous Judy Dyble in the flesh, having a lovely chat with her in the bar before the concert.]

My short and to the point review afterwards :

"Big Big Train this evening were awesome, immense, and erm...big ! Exemplary prog rock...those due to attend Night Of The Prog at Loreley are in for a treat !"

Here's a more detailed review of the show from The Progressive Aspect :

https://theprogressiveaspect.net/blog/2018/07/17/big-big-train-beatrix-player/

On that showing, I was hoping to see them again one day...as the band's official statement says, his friends and colleagues will review the situation as soon as they're able...very sad news.

I've just seen this dreadful news. BBT are one of my favourite bands and I've wanted to see them live for such a long time. David was a great talent and will be sorely missed. Condolences to his family and friends at the sad time.

RIP Stephen Sondheim. Simply the greatest of all time. No one has ever given me as much pleasure in the theatre - Company, Follies, Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, Gypsy, West Side Story. Felt so privileged to meet him at Cheltenham, he was a real gentleman.

John Miles RIP.

A true musicians musician.

I loved the epic "Music" as a kid in the 1970s.

Jamaican bass guitar giant Robbie Shakespeare. He played on more great records than I've had hot dinners.  A major loss.

Terrible loss. He played on some fabulous records. And one with Gary Barlow.
In all seriousness, Dylan’s hooking up with Mark Knopfler, Sly and Robbie and Mick Taylor was one of the great moves in music.

Agree. Oh, and good joke too.   Grin

Robbie's bass playing crops up all over reggae records and beyond. Off the top of my head: Jimmy Cliff; Culture; Burning Spear; Bunny Wailer; Peter Tosh; Black Uhuru; The Heptones; The Mighty Diamonds; Dennis Brown; Gregory Isaacs; U-Roy; Serge Gainsbourg; Bob Dylan; Jackson Browne; Sinéad O'Connor; Joan Armatrading; Grace Jones; and, obviously, Sly & Robbie. Some CV.

Me too....totally flattened by this awful news. Loved the man and his music. And the Hits Just Keep on Comin' is one of my favourite ever albums. A true genius in the strictest sense of the word. RIP Mike.

So sad to hear this news. Here we are in 2018 after his First National Band show at the Paramount Theater in Austin. R.I.P.
