Terence Wilson , better known as Astro out of UB40, after "a short illness"
Just saw this. No idea what the illness was, but very sad. Turned down booking them in '82 because they wanted £500! Never did get to see them regrettably, RIP Astro. First and only time I saw them was at Wembley Stadium two years after that. Admittedly £500 in '82 is approx £1804.62 at 2020 prices (Bank of England inflation calculator)..... |

He was at home where he wanted to be and was able to spend time with his family and friends and listen to the music he loved. |

Saw CBS several times (mostly at Claygate's Ram Club), and saw John Tams and Barry Coope play at many festivals - I always enjoyed both acts. |

I had an enchanting evening 7 years ago listening to Michael Morpugo read excerpts from War Horse, accompanied by John Tams and Barry Coope. Their music and harmonies were emotional but magical

Just saw Justin Hayward's FB post too. Very sad. A sad loss. He was often referred to by fans as "the Moodie's Ringo", not just because he played the drums, but also for his modesty and self-effacing humour, rare qualities in musicians in bands as successful as the Moodies Typical GE story: an earnest interviewer asked him if he has any tips for aspiring young drummers. He replied "my best advice is to get the biggest drum kit you can afford ........ that way, when you're thrashing around on stage, at least you'll always be sure of hitting something" Somehow, I could never see Ginger Baker, Carl Palmer or Steve Gadd giving out that sort of advice. RIP Graeme. The Moodies remain one of my all-time favourite bands. |

While searching t'web for info about Martin "Youth" Glover's new album, I cam across this release from Interchill Records:
"Michael Ward, aka Wadada of the groundbreaking band Suns of Arqa has passed on.
We give thanks for the inspiring musical legacy he has left us with, and for the opportunities of working with him and his music over the years. Suns of Arqa were always ahead of their time and breaking new ground. They were the first to combine Indian ragas with stripped back heavy dub basslines, and from the early 90's up to the present day we've been fans of the band.
In working with him he was dedicated, open, direct, inspiring and encouraging, with an attention to detail in the energetic realm. Wadada was passionate about music and a real groundbreaker.
He will be hugely missed".
Wadada/Suns of Arqa also incorporated trad Scots & Irish element into a number of their pieces.
