I seem to remember the 2009 Fairport extravaganza at the Barbican being under £25 a ticket?

I don't think I can get Mrs. J From A to the RAH on her birthday, unfortunately.  If it were MY birthday, I would be begging her to take me.

I would be happy to pay that....it was only 10 years ago so a price hike of 260% for the cheapest ticket is slightly more than the rate of inflation I would suggest  Shocked

That would be £32.94 today (if indeed I was correct).  Anybody got a ticket to hand?  One of the best gigs of my life, (dead centre, front row of the circle) and the one that stopped me watching the current band.  You win some, you lose some...and I still feel blessed to have been there.

Hah ! Smiley RAH seems like an odd place to 'celebrate' a birthday..

The Independent,

"This summer, Thompson will be touring the UK and Ireland, playing some of his recent album 13 Rivers. Before that, he will be celebrating his 70th birthday. The word “celebrating” may be stretching it, though. “If it was up to me, I would really just crawl under a stone. There will be birthday show at London's Royal Albert Hall on 30 September, with special guests. It's a celebration which I will be reluctantly dragged to.”

Day after my birthday (not quite such a significant one), but adding in rail fares, etc, I doubt I'll be forking out for a ticket by the look of it.  Shame.

Deservedly, he's a national treasure over there.  Even after so many years criss-crossing and residing in this country, however, I don't think he could sell out a U.S. venue the size of the RAH unless his special guests were Eric Clapton and Bono.

As it is the 50th anniversary of Full House next year, wouldn't it be great and fitting if Richard Thompson would join Fairport on the 2020 Winter Tour to play the album in full.

By playing bits of all of them at Cropredy, I guess.  If there was anything else we'd know wouldn't we?  [RT's 70th bash?]

Saw the chaps last night in Lowdham, the room was jam packed and there was a great atmosphere.
The banter was fun, Ric had some new jokes along with some older ones, and the music was fab.
Mostly well known songs with a couple of new and recent.
We took a Fairport virgin and they were so very welcoming, dedicating a song and thanking him at the end.

A great night. Roll on Croppers.

As RT has pointed out on FB, it is 50 years since Martin Lamble was taken from us.  RT says 'today'...other sources say the 12th.

The gig at Mothers was on Sunday the 11th.
