I like that too This is rather nice Phil Lynott singing about Sandy Denny with a group from Howth near Dublin where he lived at the time (and where I had my honeymoon!) It won't win any awards for the lyrics but the tune is OK and it's Phil Lynott!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqQBMiuYvxA Sweet bejesus, you're not wrong there! It's dire, isn't it?!!!

Who’d have thought, when you joined a band in the sixties, that you’d be the visibly hungover and hirsute front man come the eighties, with Mike Harding’s bass player on piano? Life comes at you fast. https://youtu.be/YmaEOh494nc

I also loved loved the 'gigging, as you call it' comment.

All this talk of the Gladys’ Leap material prompts me to look up this old ‘95 clip of a pre-hat Ric gallivanting around the stage like nobody’s business… https://youtu.be/BQIy5zKAWq8

Must have been a while since we shared this eighties Matty Groves from New York. Ric and Maart in full electric mode, a breakneck ending medley, and a very distinguished Sir Tim Rice on bass… 😁 https://youtu.be/ZEDzJSo4E4M

Excellent version. There's a video of them performing at Birmingham Town Hall around that time. Matty Groves is a stand out performance on that one too. Maart was a truly brilliant musician. And, agreeing with David, the energy is there to be seen.

My recollection (without having the tape in front of me) is that it was 1991, or possibly 1990, as the other material played that night came from The Five Seasons, which came out in 1990

To my mind they all look right for that.

The show was from May, 1991 at The Bottom Line and would have been a two set per night show. I remember once or twice at that point that Fairport would play 2 nights (4 sets) and I'd try to see as much of that as I could! The setlist for the Alive In New York tape is the following: Royal Seleccion # 13 Crazy Man Michael Claudy Banks Mock Morris Reynard The Fox North Country Girl Dirty Linen Matty Groves Meet On The Ledge
