I'd not long moved to Oxford and bought tickets for their show at the Apollo, on a whim. I remember the support was the excellent Kieran Hapin. Still have my copy of his Crystal Ball Gazing cassette that I bought on the night. |

Just to elaborate further, this was at The Bottom Line, much loved club for folk and folk rock especially, located in Greenwich Village but closed many years ago now. It wasn’t exactly a cheerful venue in the looks department, and had some pillars that obstructed your view. Seating was at long tables and uncomfortable seats….that being said I missed it! Most bands like Fairport would do 2 sets a night and I would go to as many as I could. I also Steeleye there, after Gay Woods had rejoined, touring the ‘Time’ album. One of my favorite memories was Oysterband, with John Jones in full leather jacket, boots and sunglasses mode stepping out on a table in front of the stage with his melodeon, miraculously dodging people’s drinks. Good times!

Fairport played there in '84 ish as well I remember with a Swarb, Peggy, Simon, DM lineup as I recall...I've got a really good recording somewhere. |

After I moved to Leeds, I used to see him play, every now and again, at the backroom of The Grove Inn. Always put on a great night. |

What a treasure! Thanks David for sharing!  I had a VHS tape ("It All Comes Round Again"), a 2 hour documentary with "Polly on the Shore" included from this footage, along with much from Cropredy 1987. I would love to have seen a DVD release to replace my worn out tape, because it's a great watch! |

As has been pointed out elsewhere (and which I missed actually) it is mimed (or most of it is anyway - there's some debate about Hexhamshire Lass). I asked DM what it was used for. "Promotion"  I actually find the non band scenes some of the most interesting parts of the film. |
