ZZ Top original drummer Frank Beard, age 77.
He was in hospice care reportedly, while the group has continued touring with a substitute. We have tickets for this Sunday night’s show in Austin.
We got to meet the group about twelve years ago when they were intact. They were very cool and down to earth. RIP to the greatest shuffle player ever.

I only discovered today that there was briefly a 4-piece line-up of ZZ Top before Frank and Dusty joined. They cut a couple of tracks which were released as a single. The songs are available on the Goin' 50 boxed set. But very sad to hear of Frank's passing. I first saw them at the Donington Festival back in 1985 and more recently at the Manchester Apollo. Must admit I still mainly listen to the pre-Eliminator albums. I've put together a tribute mix to go out on the radio next week. |

She was not only a National treasure in the USA but a worldwide International Treasure.
Her songs and philanthropy are memorable: she was definitely a One.

Dolly Parton was on Porter Wagoner's TV show when I was a kid. She'd come out in a sparkly outfit with a huge blonde wig and sing a lovely song or a duet with Porter, with his bouffant and famous spangled Nudie Suits. Even then, I couldn't really relate to the C&W vibe.
After she parted ways with him, she forged her own identity and became a crossover superstar, with songs like "I Will Always Love You," "Jolene" and "9 to 5" playing regularly on Top 40 radio. Of course, Whitney took IWALY to the moon and elevated Dolly in the process.
She didn't practice politics, but she was an outspoken humanitarian and perhaps the least judgmental person on the planet. It is truly remarkable given her religious upbringing in the American Deep South.
She performed in Austin many times, and I somehow managed never to see her. I know she was planning on touring this year or next, and I was primed. R.I.P. and say hello to Porter for me.

I am getting a bit gushy about this.
The more stories that are being told the more it adds to the legend and she didnt brag about it.
I dont think I can remember a bad word being said about her.
Hundreds of millions of books for children for Cliffs sake, and all our so called elite can do is ask for tax cuts or threaten to leave the country.
Is she one of the greatest women ever? Quite possibly, or should I say persons?
How long does it take to do your hair? - I dont know I'm never there.

Sad to hear about Dolly’s death yesterday.
I was never a fan and am not keen on C n W music, but I know a lot of her songs.
She did a huge amount of charity work and what I remember most personally about her is that two of my grandchildren were sent a book each month from her until they were five. This wa just gorgeous.
