A hugely influential man in the history of music but a man who had many demons. Personally I don't particularly enjoy the wall of sound production he pioneered and prefer sharper, more natural feel to music. Lennon's Rock and Roll album should have been great but a couple of listens is all I could manage. But he was a pioneer and a creative man who went where no one else had been before. |

Not sure I really agree with that. The best bits of ATMP are amongst the high points of popular music, I think. I suspect it's easier to blame Phil rather than George for the bits that, er, weren't....  |

I suspect it's easier to blame Phil rather than George for the bits that, er, weren't.... OK, I'll moderate it. The best parts of All Things Must Pass, and indeed Let it Be, are gorgeous. The worst excesses are Phil's fault. It's not so well known that Phil didn't actually produce all of George's album. The ones he didn't touch are sonically much more appealing. On the other hand, there's nothing much to criticise about the work he did on Let it Be tracks like I've Got a Feeling or Two of Us. Jules |

I was looking forward to its release, but was sorely underwhelmed when it came out. Perhaps it was because of familiarity with the original but having heard Macca's version i wanted to hear the original, strings and all. |

Overall I prefer it to Spector's version (at least it's got Don't Let Me Down on it, and no Mantovani-style strings), but it's still flawed. I ended up having to make my own version of the album using both sources, and others. Hopefully the boxed set will take us closer to an ideal... or not. Jules |
