A bunch of John Hiatt albums to accompany a biography that I am currently reading.

Interested to learn that Gerry Conway played on one of my favourite of his albums, Slug Line. I wonder how that connection was made as the album was recorded in the UD and it is not the sort of music I would normally associate with Gerry.

US, not UD.

Lisa O'Neill - All Of This Is Chance. I really don't know what it is about this album, but it has the possiblity of pushing out Regina Spectors' - Home, Before and After from it's position on permanent rotation in my car CD player

House  of all
A Fall album without Mark E Smith and his granny on bongos!
Actually they are all ex -Fall members and it's a great record just what the world has been missing since MES popped his clogs
Two drummers, two guitars and bass, what's not to love?

Shirley Collins  :   Archangel Hill  (Domino Records LP,  2023).

I continue to be amazed at the quality of Shirley Collins's  records
since she came out of retirement.

Steeleye Span  :  Live at Last  (BGO CD,  1997).

I don't play this very often but it's a good reminder of what a fine time it was for them -  Mr Carthy still in the group, everyone playing so well.  'Montrose'  is fab.

The bass playing on this album is superb, such a great tone.

In recent years I've sort of just 'gone off' Steeleye.  The last time I saw Maddy was on the Sandy tour (2012?) and I almost instantly stopped loving her voice.  I've found it hard to go back on that...although I still listen to the early material in particular.  I like this album though...it's John Kirkpatrick that makes it for me...

Why the sadness, Andy?

I too had gone off them finding Maddy's voice too shouty, but I enjoyed them last time the did Cropredy and a year ago I and to see them on the 50 years of below the salt tour and thoroughly enjoyed them, but the lass on fiddle  did a fair bit of the heavy lifting on the higher register stuff.

It's not a secret, Gareth has discussed this on Facebook.

But I'm not putting details here.

Thunderpussy: Thunderpussy (CD 2018).

The sleeve looks like an Alice Cooper album gone wrong but the music is dynamite rock, old school, like people did before punk came along.  They are an all female band.

Hannah Sanders & Ben Savage Before The Sun. I've been meaning to get hold of something of theirs since seeing them on tour with Fairport this winter, and this doesn't disappoint.  Just sorry I missed them when they played locally, on the very day we left for our most recent trip to Africa.
