Thanks for the link. This particular piece is interesting, but mr. Williams blog seems full of all kinds of interesting stories.
I found this one: https://thebluemoment.com/2015/03/02/the-story-of-sandy-denny/ quite interesting as well, not in the least because of Colin Harpers reply to it.

At the risk of going off-topic, that whole reply thread is very interesting, isn’t it? Always nice to have a first hand report from someone who was actually in the room, as it were.

Thanks for that; I read the whole reply thread and it's fascinating.

I’ve never understood why First Light has been held in such low regard.

I bought First Light a year or two after I'd acquired, and loved, Hokey Pokey and IWTSTBLT. I played FL over and over again trying to get into it - but failing.
I recall playing it in the car and and an unimpressed friend joined in the chorus of  the title track, thinking RT & LT were singing "The Sla-a-a-a-g... the sla-aaa-ag". I don't think that helped.

I’m not expecting the replacement CDs for a while yet, but has anyone who sent an email to Universal had any kind of acknowledgement?

I spoke too soon - glitches and dropouts at 2/3rds of the way through "Calvary Cross" on disc 4. Bah!

I shall be emailing UMG later to request replacement discs AND the download link (on the assumption that replacement disks may not rip)

Just thinking the same, because I haven't either.

Multiple reports on Steve Hoffman from people who have had a response and a download code so it is happening but I haven't received one yet either. Not really expecting anything until at least Monday now.

My copy seems to be fine, except, maybe, the final song on the final disc ("High School Confidential"). And I'm not sure it's a disc problem, it might be the recording itself - perhaps the original tape got spliced. Can anyone here verify whether a beat gets missed at the 1:30 mark on your copy?

Superb mastering overall, though. REALLY liked how First Light now sounds. And I also don't believe the Rafferty stuff has ever sounded better, "I'm A Dreamer" in particular.

Yes there is a possible tape glitch at 1.30 but nothing more, i think.
Re the Gerry Rafferty material, the previous versions i have heard have all been needle drops and they now sound like the tapes were used

Thanks, Jim. Yeah, sounded fine after that point.

What did you have to provide as evidence, Paul?  An invoice?

I'm getting pretty peeved now. I emailed them just before 8pm last Wednesday and have heard absolutely nothing.  Angry And I bought two of these things.

Many people who both bought and emailed later than I did have already received their responses. I have just chased UMG again but I'm not impressed.

I created pdfs of my amazon order & delivery note and attached them to my email.

I almost feel guilty now I know Al et al haven't yet had a response. I guess I was just fortunate.

Me too (the guilt, especially after my earlier anti-corporate ranting).  I emailed, and in 15 minutes (have just looked again...it was actually 3 minutes) I've got a download code (and a promise re: replacement discs).  Sorry (and thanks again).

ps I really must stop using parentheses
