Fairport "and friends" - including the Malaika Choir - are playing at Gloucester Cathedral on Wed 25th October in aid of the Malaika Foundation (www.malaika.org).

Here's the flyer I picked up while in town shopping earlier:

Hmm - bit fast off the mark, methinks.

Nothing on the Cathedral website, as the leaflet suggests - indeed, they still Choral Evensong right at soundcheck time in their calendar.

But its in the diary....

I hope I'll be forgiven placing this particular post here rather than the thread for my blog in 'Announcements'. This is just my little way of saying Happy 50th Fairport!

I've just got hold of a copy of Porthole: A Fairport Convention Quarterly No 1 Spring 1996 a US based foolscap sized 56pp plus covers mag.  Anybody know anything else about this?  How long it ran etc etc?  It's never entered my consciousness before?

Don't think so... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_Linen

Porthole is from Pittsburgh.... Publisher and Editor one Robert D. Lehrian.  Ian Burgess, Fred Redwood and Martin Woodward are listed as UK Correspondents.

Update: Actually The Ledge, Fiddlestix and Dirty Linen all get a mention in "With Thanks To".

It looks as though he's quite easily findable if you google him - must have been quite young  back then as he's only 53 now. Ask him?

Dirty Linen magazine came from Fairport Fanatics fanzine in the US, originally put together by TJ McGrath.

Porthole was separate and didn't last long - from memory it may have been just that one issue, or maybe another.

So far this year we have seen a Winter Tour, Sprng Tour and Birthday Gig but very few comments and reviews here despite gigs being sold out on a regular basis. Is Talkawhile missing a trick somewhere in converting the seemingly hundreds of fans into board members?

May I assure this is NOT a criticism of board management simply asking.

How can it be put? Online disxussion boards today aren't the height of fashion; more instant forms of social media seem more popular?

Yes, plenty of TAW members mentioning they've purchased tickets for all of the above tours, but there is always a distinct lack of post gig reviews. Odd.

Maybe TAW-ers attention span us shortening. Or we've other/exrra things to do such that there is less time to spend here? I'm in that latter boat....

Maybe there just isn't a lot more to say, after over 700,000 posts.

Still we'll mostly be there at the bar.  Fez

I enjoyed Fairport's set at the Acoustic Festival of Britain.
Gerry seemed rather exposed without a full drum kit to hide behind.
Fortunately, Peggy wasn't exposed even though wearing baggy shorts and seated (as they all were).
