Sir John Tavener, composer, musician, mystic.  Aged 69. RIP, Sir John.   A real loss. A key musical memory of my youth was being present at the world premiere of "Little Requiem for Father Malachi Lynch" in Winchester Cathedral. I'd never heard anything remotely like it before and there I guess began my exploration of modern composers, some that have an echo of Tavener in them, like Arvo Part and others of radically different style. As it happens I have a couple of Tavener CD's in the van on my travels. A listen to "Prayer of the Heart" is, I think, called for this evening.

Sir John Tavener, composer, musician, mystic.  Aged 69. RIP, Sir John.   Very sad - one of my favourite choral composers. We're singing his setting of The Tyger on Sunday, will have to make sure it's extra special.

That's very sad. Climax Chicago Blues Band were virtually the house band around my part of London at one time. Lost track of them once they became more famous & dropped the Chicago. Must dig out Plays On & Lot of Bottle when I get home.
