None of you have any US friends when you were younger?  9 times out of 10, shortened to a 'doob' but ubiquitous in my Uni circles (mid 80s), at least...

Many, many moons ago a boy I fancied asked if I wanted to go to his room to “listen to the Doobies”. Thinking this was a euphemism I readily agreed!

It wasn’t  Sad  and I’ve successfully avoided them ever since, despite being a big Michael McDonald fan.

Until now! I love a Best of… compilation and this one “The Very Best of The Doobies” off iTunes is superb. What a great range they had: yacht rock -> pop -> Motown -> funk -> ballads - it’s all here.

Perfect for a sunny Sunday in the garden  Cool

I have that same compilation, but must admit that I am generally much more of a fan of the pre- and post-Michael McDonald era tracks, when they seemed to rock more.

I have been immersing myself in the songs of the late Ron Hynes. If you don’t know the name, you know at least one of his songs-Sonny’s Dream. Such a great songwriter. Last night for the second time in as many months I watched this documentary, which covers not only his demons, but also captures the way his mind wrote so many lyrically beautiful songs-St John’s Waltz, The Boy From Old Perlican, Atlantic Blue, etc. Newfoundland is a big part of the story so it also makes it interesting to see a bit of that too. I like both, but I know what you mean!

Mike Oldfield :  Tubular Bells II  (Record Store Day  LP, blue vinyl, 2022).

Picked this  up recently  cheap, and cripes I'd forgotten how good it is. Released in 1992 and i have a tape recording of it livevtwken from the radio.
I'd even say i like it better than the first TB.
And somehow someone managed to cut around a full hour of music  onto one LP- great sound, clean detailed and dynamic.

Monsoon   :  Third Eye   (Cherry Pop   2CD, 2022).

If like me you enjoyed the single  'Ever so Lonely' ,  which came out  in 1981,  you might be pleased to find   11, that's eleven,  versions on this  2CD version  of  Monsoon's album.

Sheila Chandra of course is  known for much more, now.

Btw i feel (ever so)  lonely on this thread these days.  Is anybody still 'Listening to..'   anything at all at  all?

Just finished listening to Gladys' Leap. I still can't work out why they put 'My Feet are Set for Dancing' on an otherwise pretty decent album.

Yesterday, I had a bit of a Creedence afternoon. 'Willy and the Poor Boys' and 'Cosmo's Factory'. Their best two albums, in my humble opinion.

Although Gladys's leap is all of 40 years old, my first purchase of it was this year's vinyl reissue.  I hope Talking Elephant do more Fairport on vinyl.

Is that the new 'remastered' edition, Mick?  I'm interested to know if it actually sounds better than the original one?

Apparently Cathy LeSurf had done that song with them at the previous Cropredy, so maybe it was just an easy add?

The trouble with investigating Oldfield's catalogue is that it's mostly all dowhill after the first four studio albums. There are hidden gems, but they're few and far between. It's a lot of effort for scant reward, in my opinion.

As one who discovered him via Crises and Discovery in the early 80s I beg to differ.

Decent in parts for sure, and I like Crises especially, but Jules is still right (I think).

I love Crises and Discovery.   This was where i ( re) discovered him too.

A friend recently  introduced me to Incantations. It's rather good  and features Maddy Prior.  A bit long, but good.

I really rate TB II and III .
