The spectre of Jamie Muir swinging a length of hosepipe around the stage nearly decapitating Messrs Wetton and Fripp at the Hardrock in Stretford has never left me

Digging out some old, long untouched vinyl. I was actually looking for my copy of Wang Chung's Points On The Curve album but I seem to have lost it.

Instead I am listening to a real curio, the sole album by post punk band Writz. It is actually rather fun. Don't know why I buried it away for 40 or so years.

Elton John  :  Honky Chateau - 50th anniversary edition (Mercury Records  2LP,  2023).

Even the session demos are enjoyable.  So pleased with this.

Possibly nothing earth shattering but there is an amusing McCartney anecdote and I didn't know about his new band, Those Pretty Wrongs, whose new album I have just ordered.

Mr. Fox:  Join us In Our Game. (Castle CD, 2004).

Almost forgot I had this, and was led to it when I dug out the Bob Pegg  2CD  anthology to listen to.
Join us ...  consists of the 2 Mr Fox albums from 1970 and 1971.
More than a footnote in folk-rock history, I feel. Even when something doesn't work they manage to make it interesting.

Includes a fine version of 'Little Woman' by Dave Mason, which appeared as a DM track on Bumpers.

Much much more... I love both albums.  They should have been considerably bigger than they were.

The Bennett Wilson Poole is on repeat at the moment (even though there is a newie from Boygenius!), and its sensational. Nothing original sounding, but why should there be, influences abound from Ticket To Ride through Jorma's guitar on Wooden Ships to Untitled era Byrds playing Baba O'Riley over the chorus to Everlasting Love. Stunning.

The boygenius album has incidentally entered the UK album charts at number 1 this week.

Musically I'd agree with you absolutely.  Lyrically though I'm struggling with the succession of trite lyrics.  They really are of an almost 21st century Neil Youngian banality...  Right on sentiments, of course, but really really cliched.  I'm finding it hard not to feel a little disappointed.

Carolanne Pegg:  Carolanne  (Esoteric CD, 2017).

Also very good. More rock/prog than Mr Fox.
