Maart and Doonicans Christmas charity song

Barnsley-based  musical comedy trio The Bar Steward Sons of Val Doonican went down a storm at Fairport's Cropredy Convention in 2018. They were joined on stage by former Fairporter Maartin Allcock who was a musical collaborator and a close friend of the Doonicans. Sadly, Cropredy was Maart's farewell appearance - five weeks later he lost his battle with cancer.

For some years the Doonicans have released a comedy Christmas single to raise money for charity. In the last four years Maart produced the songs and played on them.

The 2017 Christmas single was Greg Lake's "I Belive in Father Christmas" played in that most festive of styles - folk-prog, a genre which Maart termed 'frog'.

With the support of Maart's wife Jan, the Doonicans are planning to re-release the single this Christmas in the hope it will bring Maart a posthumous hit in the iTunes folk charts.

The official release date is Monday 17 December but the single can be pre-ordered from today. All profits will be donated to the Wales Air Ambulance, a charity dear to Maart and Jan's hearts.

To buy "I Belive in Father Christmas" by The Bar Steward Sons of Val Doonican and Maart Allcock follow this link to iTunes
