I see there’s a notable twelve-string for sale.
This just in from the office of Simon Nicol:
Right – after a year and a half without a gig, and not having been blessed with the Chancellor’s largesse in the SEISS scheme, I’m afraid I’m going to have to let a few things go as I’m not going to get any use from them.
I’m putting my 1971 Rickenbacker 360-12 string electric guitar up for sale. I bought it in ’72, from the original owners, a music instrument hire company, having rented it for an Albion Country Band session. As soon as I got it out of the case and realised it WAS STILL IN TUNE, I knew it was special, and after a bit of haggling I struck a deal, and have used it whenever I’ve wanted “that” unique guitar sound, on record or on stage: forty-nine years now. But it’s still in very good nick, and apart from a few very minor belt buckle marks, is cosmetically excellent.
So it’s the one on all the Fairport recordings, all the Richard and Linda stuff, the various Albion projects and my solo records.
It lives in a heavy-duty protective flight case made especially for it, and I’ll be sorry to let it go in a way, but there are bills to pay before the doors of theatres reopen and now Cropredy is postponed again, this is the best thing to do for me and my family.
Yours for £5000. I might even deliver it if you live within a few hundred miles of East Kent.
I note that when Ian McNabb found himself in straitened circumstances a few years years ago some charitable cove bought his guitar and gifted it straight back to him.

Yeah, me too...it's the live band and shows I'm interested in...I never knew it happened until just now. I think (years later) that I heard Peggy and crew had done some dates, and I think the way I came across that was in looking up the late Neal Gauntlett, Joe Brown's guitarist for a good while. There was something about the way Neal looked so spot on with his playing when filmed with Joe's band on The Concert For George, that I looked him up to find out more, and found that he had been part of the Cocktail Cowboys tour. The only other person I know for sure that was part of it was Chris Leslie (source-Kevin Dempsey's and Chris Leslie's album Always With You). |
