Has not Simon admitted to being the bands first fiddle player in the past.

If he has, I missed it. Any pointers?

Brilliant clips ! More and more stuff is being unearthed...what next ? Maybe Si Du Tois Partir from Top Of The Pops, that'll be nice. Officially it's erased, BBC reused the tapes, footage doesn't survive, etc. but there must be someone out there with an early home video system, an obsessive type who taped every single edition of TOTP who has it and maybe doesn't even know...just a matter of finding them.

What?  I'm sure I've seen this.  I'm positive I have.  Haven't I?  Thought I had...but, maybe I've just seen the stills... Undecided

Yes, the stills are great. But it would be nice for the footage to turn up in a someone's personal archive like Bob Monkhouse who apparently was into taping TV in a big way :

Might never happen though !

Deffo a viola; I've seen Simon play it (maybe not that exact one...) a fair few times.

That evening was the start of my love for this band; their music has been with me for almost most of my adult life - it's cheered me up when I was down, and it continues to inspire me.  Thanks Fairport -áll of you.

Since that was your first impression, I doubt you'd have recognized the songs (by title) that the post-filming "pickup" band played as the Granada crew was packing up ~ but do you happen to remember which members from the bands played together?  Did Ashley join his former Fairporters?

Unfortunately it's all a bit hazy - but I seem to remember Martin Carthy, Swarb, DM, Peter Knight, Simon, & Peggy being up there at the same time... not sure whether Ashley joined in... I don't remember 2 bass players at once - but Peggy might have used Swarb'd mandolin?  Sorry - I wish I could remember.

I can remember where we were sat - on the top of a dune off to the left of the stage as you face it - i.e. on Peggy's side.  We had an excellent view (and the sound was clear), we had a few cans of beer & a couple of hippies just upwind of us had an enormous "cigarette"... some of which may explain the memory gaps.  Wink

Wonderful clip ! The drummer is Michael Spencer-Arscott (introduced here as Michael Arscott), and he played drums on most of the Sunnyvista album (DM played on a couple of tracks). I believe he currently runs a recording studio.

Is it me, or is Ms. Thompson especially radiant in this clip?  Her "thank you" after the song is adorable.
