It was on Cropredy Saturday that the idea of making the Carey Convention t-shirts available to TalkAwhilers as a means of supporting the Patagonia Trek for Cancer Research UK was first raised.

At that time, Songs From The Blue House offered to hold a gig for Carey in support of the Trek. For various reasons (mostly by my own shortcomings this hasn't been possible) but SftBH suggested a charity single instead. One big advantage that it gave everyone the opportunity to be a part of this rather then just those who live close to, or are able to travel to, a gig.

The next question was - which song ?

Everyone who knew of Carey was aware of his tremendous love of, and support for Dave Swarbrick. Rosie seemed the obvious choice.

Swarb himself said that SftBH had his permission to use his composition "for this fantastic project".

So Rosie was recorded - Swarb had a listen and issued the verdict "Tell the lads to go ahead. Everything's fine."

Anyone wishing to get a copy of SftBH's version of Rosie should go to http://www.wovenwheatwhispers.co.uk/Label-Store-charity.htm where it is possible to make a donation to the Patagonia Trek and in return receive a copy of Rosie by download (as ever, your connection speed will dictate how quickly you can receive your copy of the song)

There are several donation options from £1 upwards - the choice is yours.

This is a great version of a true classic..... give it a listen !

Finally... thanks to James and Shane and the rest of Songs From the Blue House for recording this, thanks to Woven Wheat Whispers for hosting this and most of all ... thanks to Dave Swarbrick for his kind permission to use Rosie and for all the joy that his music has given, and still gives to so many of us.

Ladies & Gentlemen.... Rosie !

A few more details;

The song file is 2.99 MB big, and in mp3 format.

I cannot stress enough how grateful we are to Woven Wheat Whispers for their help with the download, and for not passing on a sizeable portion of their costs, thereby donating their own cash as well as providing all the help. They have worked very hard to make this happen, at short notice and with great gusto! Thanks lads.

Thank you very much to Swarb for giving us the thumbs up!

We hope you all feel able to donate to the charity in this way, and get a little something back for your trouble. Please note that you do not have to have an account with Paypal to use them these days, you can simply pay with your credit or debit card.

Many Thanks,
James.

By having it as a download, there is an element of not having to spend money on blank CDs, jiffy bags, postage, inlays and artwork so that all of your money goes to the Patagonia Trek fund, however, as my good friend and colleague James has intimated, I'm sure we can come to some arrangement  Wink . As an aside, in keeping with the spirit of things, we recorded the basic track pretty much nose-to-nose live in James' shed (or 'The Snug' as it is referred to in Blue House circles) on a full moon over a couple of bottles of 6X. It just seemed like the right thing to do.  Fez

As if I didn't have enough respect for SftBH......

Sterling job boys.

Now, for those who are having problems downloading. I'm happy to send them the mp3 on a CD if they IM me with their address and a promise they have already pledged *something* for the track. As long as it doesn't run to 100s then I'll happily do this.

Blank CDs are cheap as is postage and as long as its not my new Project Manager who lives in Aus wanting 250 copies then no probs.

But... please IM me and be patient as I'm away from home during the week so it might take a couple of days (or so!) to get you your copy.

cheers

Mike, you are truly a diamond geezer  Fez, but I have already made arrangements with those who are experiencing diffculties.

But can I respectfully request that everyone that can download the song in the 'normal' way, does so. Ta.

Hi all

this is Mark just joined from Woven Wheat Whispers / Unbroken Circle sites.  Hello!

Anyone having problems with the download or need assistance - do let me know.  Today we've had a fair number of downloads which is wonderful for the Carey Convention and all seems to be going well technically (well I've not heard that it isn't....).

If a lot of people want the music on CD instead, we could start a distribution-tree up.  Actually if you order the download and want it on CD instead, make sure you pass us your address in the comments box within Paypal (your address will be kept secret) then I can pop one in the post.  I send out a huge number of promotional  CDs for artists and so on each week, a few more won't make a difference.

Hope all this helps.  I look forward to speaking with everyone here at a much more acceptable hour of the day.

Thanks to everyone who has made me welcome, especially Judy!

cheers

Hello all, just to let you know that as of 21:30 on 5th November, the amount raised so far was £108.00, which is fantastic after just 50 hours.  Fez

Many thanks for your help so far...keep 'em coming, people! At the moment we only plan to keep the track up there for download until just before Kath goes off on her trek...i.e. about mid-December-ish, so if you haven't already........
