Apparently over the past few years it has been run by various companies (all owned by the same people) who have successively declared themselves bankrupt in order to avoid paying debtors, including local youngsters who'd been doing p/t work as well as suppliers.

Alchemy-Dire Straits Live (1983).
I know some people will scoff at this, but it was a major soundtrack of my sixth form years, in the eighties and I haven’t heard it for years.

I am right back there with all the friendship, love, joy and of course, angst! So nostalgic and whatever your views on the music I think it is a brilliant live album and those versions are THE versions for me.

No scoffing from me. Love that album.

Are they going to change their name to the Brassneck?

Sadly there is a venue in Lancaster which has a bad reputation when it comes to paying performers. In these post-Covid days bands often struggle to make ends meet and the last thing they need is venues messing them about. A couple of gigs at another venue in town have been cancelled due to poor ticket sales.

Fingers crossed that an alternative venue can be found.

Some weeks ago someone sent me a message on FB with a link to a Soft Machine gig in Coventry, at the Albany Club in Earlsdon, about a 10 minute walk from where I live. So I thought it would be rude not to go.

Venue was very busy, with not enough tables/chairs out, and after a bit of chaos the organiser admitted he'd never been so busy and this was the best turnout for the Jazz Club he'd ever seen.

They were excellent, playing a lot of new stuff and some classics, including Facelift, Joy of Toy, and Hazard Profile.

How much of it got played (i.e. just Part One, I'm guessing)?  Probably my favourite Soft Machine track from my favourite Soft Machine album (which normally makes other Canterbury fans guffaw....

I found a post with Peggy's words. Pretty strong words at that.

" Weird Scenes Inside The Goldmine" by the Doors plus "LA Woman" provides just enough Doors for me , never been tempted by any other full LP's
I occasionally forget how good "The Best Of The Doors" is and rediscover it on car journeys. L.A. Woman does have a special place in my heart, though.

The Sailors Life on the Unconventional boxset was the ragged jewel of that crown. Originally, it was reputted as being the first performance, but I recall there was some argument to the contrary.  Either way, it was quite a find.

Does any here have any knowledge of the rest of the show? Has it ever been in cuirculation. I'm not (necessarily) interested in getting a copy -  I'm just curious about it.  Set list and other highlights?

Its the only audience recording I know about prior to the Full House tour....that I can recall.

I must revisit that.  I bought Unconventional  when it was released and have only played it  a few times in its entirety. Rather dutifully, but i'm sure there is much to  enjoy.

I haven't seen Peggy's post(s) but am aware that TRADarrr, Miranda Sykes and Chris While & Julie Matthews have all withdrawn from the Brasenose "Fringe" due to reports of suppliers and younger workers there last year remaining largely unpaid.

I can't say I'm surprised, the Brase seemed to be jumping the shark last year and getting well above themselves.

Those who aren't on FB may not be aware of things kicking off with the Brasenose.  Postings by Peggy.  Bands withdrawing from playing there etc.

I've not been paying close attention so maybe somebody in the know can summarise the situation?
