The 'unobtrusive percussionist'

« on: July 23, 2024, 08:47:29 PM »

As my mate Gareth said, about 2 weeks before every Cropredy, can we get excited yet….,?
Well 2 days to Warwick, the van is packed , the lineup is v good and the weather looks positive.
Just a lovely friendly fest, all venues under cover…..
Tickets still available if you fancy it.
The fest is in the Castle grounds. It does also have a fringe running in pubs in the town…….Morris dancing in the square etc….

I won’t write a music review here, if anyone is interested there is a review of everyone I saw on my f book page.
Just to say the organisers have now got the site ( having moved into castle grounds 3 yrs ago, )really sorted
A great ,really accessible festival village , with all venues, bars and food outlets under cover…..and the weather was glorious.
Some major highlights, John Tams, Breabach, Merry Hell, UNTHANKS ,Gnoss, Lauren South but there is just so much music and dance, somewhere all the time.
Really friendly, beautifully stewarded , great camping with immaculate showers and posh loos.

Have booked tickets for this year's festival. Only been once and that was about 10 years ago. We're having a week's holiday and are staying in a cottage just south of the town.

Looks like RT will be well enough to play on the Thursday night as Warwick is the first live date listed on his website. Fingers crossed!

Back from our trip to Warwick and a what a great festival it was. The weather was fine apart from a shower on Sunday evening and it did get pretty darned hot on Friday.

RT played sitting down after his recent accident - I didn't know that he fell down stairs which of course makes you think of another ex-member of Fairport. But his playing was as good as ever and great to hear songs like The Ghost of You Walks. The only FC song he did was Genesis Hall but he did a few R&L numbers with Zara joining him for most of the second half of his set.

Other highlights included Granny's Attic, Chris Wood & Andy Cutting, Fara and Benji Kirkpatrick who did a set of Hendrix covers. We had a surprise act on Saturday I think it was, of a new group comprising Benji, James Fagan and Jon Doran. They called themselves Bouzouki Three and did a fine version of Sir Patrick Spens.
