Well I've left it for a year, but it seems this dinosaur of social media is still being used, but I am going to trim it down.
It seems that people still want somewhere to post with no adverts and can't be tracked.

So to start with:

All posts over 500 days old will be deleted.
Popular topics will be made more prominent, like the 'Arts' section and others dropped.
Only topics relating to Fairport will be visible to non-members.
New members by request of current members only.
Members not logging on for a year will be deleted.

So how does that sound?

Sounds fine to me.

Would you also archive the Q and As with special guests? That stuff is priceless.

It may actually increase board usage.

Looking back through the most recent new members, the vast majority never post. Those that do seem to be connected to existing members or share some connection with the bands or the festival. Active membership had for a long time been through word of mouth.

Meanwhile, Colin and I spend a lot of time looking through new applications, finding that almost all of them are from spam and phishing accounts. So the current membership system isn't really working that well.

So strangely enough, A membership system that is more in the hands (or word of mouth) of the regulars will likely lead to an increase in newly active members.

Cheers

Nick

It was mentioned before that gurus and Dan's were ok. Colin says that all members are ok. Does that mean senior members and full members? The thing is once anyone is shut out, how do you get in touch with those on the board you know if you dont have their personal e mails etc  to ask to be a member??
I agree there are scammers and phishers about but can the genuine peeps have a chance to request this from the gurus who are allowed...what will be the procedure? I give many thanks to Colin and Nick who have over the years spent much time working on this board. Most people are positive and friendly.
I do hope we can continue with the genuine fans of Fairport and the alternative comments on here.

Thank you Yabb.
This is a place that has made such a difference to me, and has opened up my life in so many different ways. I am so thankful that I idly clicked on the link years ago.
