Rising Of The Bold - the new album by Merry Hell

Boy does Simon Swarbrick's playing sound like his uncle on here.

Oh and it is a very fine album too.

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't know they had a new record out so have downloaded a copy from Bandcamp. They're coming to Morecambe later in the year so I'll hopefully see them then.

I got a copy of Flook's new release Sanju thru the post. Only 30 minutes of music - quality rather than quantity. Maybe it's to do with them being on their 30th anniversary tour this year.

I'm also enjoying Suzanne Vega's latest, her first in 11 years..

Is that the CD, Alan? My mugshot's on the front page of the insert. Same pic as on here...

Joni Mitchell's Clouds album,   vinyl, 2021  remaster.

Interesting to hear, in original state,  the 2 tracks which Fairport covered on their debut.

Yes it is. I saw the various photos but haven't looked closely. I will try and spot you.

I'm racing in the Southport Sprint Duathlon this coming Sunday, as is a certain Mr Andrew Kettle. Maybe we'll have a chorus of Peace..... after the event!

Doubling down on Simon Swarbrick this evening with a listen to Feast Of Fiddles' Live '24.

I didn't realise that he had joined the line up until I was googling yesterday to see what he had been involved with outside of Merry Hell. It is some years since I last saw FoF or bought any of their albums but this one is a great listen and they sound reinvigorated by the new line up (some of the better known old hands (Peter Knight, Chris Leslie) having departed. DM's drumming is mighty here, albeit a little low in the mix.

Actually, rejoined the line up, as he was one of the three Simon's in the original membership, way back!
Was fortunate enough to catch a few dates this spring tour. Not only did he play Lemon Dog Reel which is on the Live 24 cd, but also Lizard on a Rock, as yet unrecorded, but equally as brilliant.

Lizard On A Log is on the new Merry Hell album. Is that the tune you mean?

The new Green Diesel album, Onward The Sun, is excellent. It's a little beefier than usual but not so much that it's detrimental to their usual folk-rock sound.

I'd love to catch them live at some point.

Thanks Jules, I hope you/no-one thought I was referring to someone no longer with us... it's someone I've known for over 50 years, who I was due to meet this week, but circumstances conspired against us. One day...

I came to no firm conclusions. I hope things work out better next time.
