Focus seems to be very much on the early cover versions here rather than on later original material written for the band by outsiders.

Two votes each.

Poll closes, Friday lunchtime.

And Ralph claims it as his own too.

Maybe DM had inmput into Fairport's *version* of it?

I suspect that DM's contribution was the keyboard intro on the original. Still... Roll Eyes

You have just reminded me that I was going to disallow The Hiring Fair for this very reason but I forgot. Oh well, too late now. I am not re-setting the vote for a third time!  Roll Eyes

And what about somebody who was a member of FC - like RT who has had songs covered that he had not written at the time he was in the band ... Anyway, I am choosing Percy's Song - Sandy & Ian's voices in perfect unison.

Yes, we had that discussion on the nomination thread. In the end they were disallowed on a technicality. Otherwise How Many Times & The Poor Ditching Boy would both have been right up there for me in their respective categories. But it starts to get confusing then. Do you allow Cropredy recordings of Fairport playing One Way Donkey Ride for example?

I have a feeling I read somewhere that he wrote the whole of the middle section (or at least the chord sequence for it - not sure he wrote the violin part!).  Think he did the same with Bring 'Em Down as well (but less certain about that one).  Talented man (although, IMO, I'd prefer an acoustic piano to the 80s electric sound they used).

On the basis that DM gets a co-writing credit and Hiring Fair has already succeeded elsewhere, I declare Time Will Show The Wiser the winner here!  Wink

sorry, you should have disbarred Hiring Fair on discovery, not after the vote. How many might have voted otherwise? Hiring Fair wins it

But the narrative says Poll closes. Friday lunchtime.

The other time is system generated but did not fit with my own plans.

Dearly as I love Hiring Fair, I wish I'd got to the suggestions list before it closed. No Steve Tilston or Steve Ashley nominations?
