Great news for Jake Thackray fans.  The people at the Jake Thackray Website have obtained permission to release the BBC TV series "Jake Thackray And Songs" on DVD.  This includes permission from the other artists involved - listed here:

http://www.jakethackray.com/performances/tvradio/television/48-jake-thackray-and-songs.html

The DVD should be available from the website after the launch in October:

The 'Jake Thackray and Songs' DVD will be launched next weekend, 4th and 5th October at a special Jakefest in New Brighton. It will also be available from Amazon.
If any Jake fans are in the New Brighton area next weekend do come along it should be a good do and you'll be able to buy the new DVD. Here's the current programme:

A festival for fans of Jake Thackray and those who may be new to his work. The newly mastered DVD of the BBC series 'Jake Thackray and Songs' will be launched at this weekend.
The event will be based at The Queen’s Royal Hotel (www.thequeensroyalhotel.com) which is situated on the promenade of New Brighton, Wallasey, on the Wirral peninsula, just a 20 minute train ride from central Liverpool and easily accessible from the M53 motorway.
We are pleased to announce that John Watterson (a.k.a Fake Thackray, as featured on Matthew Parris’ ‘Great Lives’ on Radio 4, and at Cropredy Festival) will be one of our performers at the Saturday evening concert. Tickets for this are just £8 and entitle you to attend any of the other concerts, talks or workshops. All proceeds go to Wirral Autistic Community.
Programme
Friday
8.30 pm. The evening with be an all-comers folk club-type session where anyone who performs is welcome to sing JT songs, or the songs of others, perhaps with a humorous bent. There will be an optional fun Jake Thackray quiz at half time.
Saturday
12.30 pm-1.30 pm. Guitar workshop: come along to share or pick up tips on how to play Jake’s songs
2.00 Afternoon Concert (if you'd like to play please contact Malcolm at malcolmjeffrey@virginmedia.com.)
3.30 Talk by John Watterson (a.k.a. Fake Thackray) about his research for a proposed JT biography: be the first to hear what he has discovered from talking to Jake’s friends and family.

4.00 Afternoon concert continues
6.00 Optional carvery meal in the hotel restaurant (£6.50, booking advised, 0151 691 0101)
7.30 A chance to see some of the new DVD 'Jake Thackray and Songs’
7.45 Evening concert featuring Fake Thackray and others

The DVD, which features over 2 hours of Jake in his prime as well as a couple of songs each from Ralph McTell, Alex Glasgow and Pete Scott, will be available at the Jakefest for £10. That's a £2 saving on the Amazon price.
Go on. You know you want to.

'Fraid not. You have to reach separate agreements with each artist involved. Ralph, Pete and Alex's widow were quickly forthcoming and generously agreed to their material being used whereas reaching RT and Linda, Maddy Prior and Susha or their people was a more involved process and, being basically a bunch of enthusiasts rather than music moguls, we (I have to declare an interest here - I was involved with the production of the DVD) didn't have the nous or time to pursue those lines. Had the RT and Linda stuff not already been made available on the 'Live at the BBC' set we might have tried a bit harder but our priority was always to get the Jake stuff out there.

We're quietly proud of what we've achieved - it's a thrill to finally have a visual record of Jake in his prime publicly available. The footage was taken from the BBC masters so is of the best possible quality and the whole thing has been put together with the care of true devotees. A real labour of love.

Oops! I've just realised I've been banging on about the weekend of 4th-5th of October being the Jakefest dates. I should point out that all the fun is happening on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th October. Anyone turning up on the 5th will have missed the boat.

Bit of a senior moment there, I'm afraid. Mea Culpa, as they used to say. Embarrassed

The DVD is available on Amazon as of this morning! And very reasonably priced.

This should get you to the right page: http://tinyurl.com/JakeDVD

The launch weekend was a roaring success with a good time had by all and a packed house for the Saturday night concert. Great stuff.

Possibly not worthy of another thread but a few JT fans might be interested in this forthcoming book:
