Hi all!

1.   Who are you and where are you from?
I'm Ben, I'm from Lincolnshire, England.

2.   What made you join Talkawhile?
I felt the need to reconnect with my folk roots and get to know some people on the scenes.

3.   What do you know of Fairport Convention and/or Cropredy if anything?
Have seen Fairport Convention at an acoustic festival a few years back, but am not massively familiar with Cropredy.

4.   What kind of music do you like?
Yikes. Uh, folk (Western and Eastern), rock, electronica (of many forms), metal, classical (Western and Eastern), experimental, jazz, rock'n'roll, I could go on...

5.   What was the last gig/festival/recital/concert that you attended?  What was it like?
It was a West African duo who were playing at the village hall in my village. It was amazing. Very small crowd, about 25 at most I'd say, but it was incredible. Fantastic musicianship and vocal work from both members.

6.   What was the last CD that you bought?  Would you recommend it?
The King Of Limbs by Radiohead, although I have the vinyl edition as well.
Would definitely recommend it, but maybe not to a folk crowd.

7.   Complete the following sentence:
Sorry this is way too hard for someone like me to answer accurately. Tongue

Hi Ben and welcome.   It would have been easier to ask you, 'What kind of music do you not like' !   Grin

Hi Everybody,

I'l try and answer these questions as best as I can.

1.   Who are you and where are you from?

Jon Budworth from Leigh in Lancashire.

2.   What made you join Talkawhile?

A love of folk music.

3.   What do you know of Fairport Convention and/or Cropredy if anything?

I'm a big Jethro Tull fan and got into Fairport after hearing about Dave Pegg's 'Other band'! Not been to Cropredy yet but would love to go.

4.   What kind of music do you like?

Jethro Tull's more folky albums, 'Songs From The Wood', 'Heavy Horses' and 'Stormwatch'. Richard Thompson, John Renbourn, Pentangle, The Unthanks and Fleet Foxes to name but a few.

5.   What was the last gig/festival/recital/concert that you attended?  What was it like?

Bella Hardy at Band On The Wall in Manchester. Excellent gig! She's a brilliant singer and violinist.

6.   What was the last CD that you bought?  Would you recommend it?

I'l give you the last two. Bella Hardy's latest album 'Songs Lost And Stolen' and Fleet Foxes 'Helplessness Blues'. Both highly recommended!

7.   Complete the following sentence:
“Tonight, Sir Robert, I am going to be my all time favourite singer Ian Anderson and I will
            sing:  'Flying Dutchman'.

Cheers
Jon

Just look for the "Please Click Here" link at the end of the first post.

Hi

Thank you for your kindness.

I am a semi-professional musician in West Somerset working in film and also recording with bands.  I play bass guitar, guitar, piano/keyboards, drums and percussion as well as various home made instruments.  I run a studio where I record local folk musicians and have a love of all kinds of music.  The music I make and listen to is usually loosely falling into the folk genre.

I have not been to Cropredy but would love to go one day.

I came to "Talkawhile" hoping to meet other like-minded musicians.

There do seem to be a lot of places to introduce yourself here, but thank you, Sir Robert, for your starter questions. If I can remember them, since they disappeared when I clicked "Reply".

My name is Andrew. I'm originally from Dorset, but I've spent the past 40-odd years working in various places around the world. I wound up in Dubai about 10 years ago and am still there.

I like any kind of music which has some originality, depth or tradition to it - folk, blues, jazz, classical, pretty much anything. If I had to choose just one, it would be folk, and within that broad field, English folk. I have always liked Fairport since their first appearances on John Peel's show when it was till on a Sunday afternoon. I've never managed to get to Cropredy: it's usually on the weekend I have to go back to wherever I'm currently working at the end of my summer holiday. I might just make it this year, finances permitting.

The last festival I went to was WOMAD Abu Dhabi in April this year. It was a wonderful evening, with the sun setting over the sea behind the stages, which were on the beach. The highlight for me was Afro Celt Sound System - a seemingly incongruous collection of styles and instruments that combine to produce a wonderful noise.

Why did I sign up to this forum? Just curiosity, really - to see what you all talk about and get up to.

Welcome Andrew Younggeorge.. I am the welcomer of new members to Talkawhile and I would like to explain the many introducing bits..

The Welcome to New Members is exactly that, If you have less than 10 posts to your name and have a newbie question to ask like 'how do I?' and 'what's this all about then?' and 'why can't I..?' then you can ask them away from the main board. Some new members are shy and prefer to ask for things there..

Also I see you are 'anonymous' under your name, this is an anti spammers protection thing... if you look at the 'Home' page you should be able to see a section directed to 'Anonymous' members. If you follow the instructions, you should be able to become unanonimised. there will be things you can't do as an anonymous member, like post pictures....

There now. Any questions please ask !

Thanks, Jude. That was the first thing I did. I suppose I just have to wait for someone to approve it.

Jude: Thanks for the welcome, but I can't see a 'reply' button in the New Members section, or any other way to post a question there.

I've posted in the Anonymous Members area and I've submitted a photo. Is that enough to get un-anonymised? I could give you my work email, but I'd rather not: I like to keep work and personal separate.

Think it's just a question of waiting till one of the Admins are online to unanonymise you, they are the only ones who can do so..

Not sure why you can't see a 'reply' button Huh Will have a look...

In the new members section, you start a new topic or you can add a post to the bottom of the last thread in there..

Just realised who I'm talking to. What an honour! Can I add that to my reasons for joining TAW? Not that it was, because I didn't know at the time, but it's certainly a reason for staying!

Anyway, the reply button appeared but I still can't see how to start my own thread.

Edit: Hot linked image removed.

Edit: Another hot linked image removed.

Is it missing because I'm still Anonymous?

Can you move this whole conversation into the "New Members" section where it belongs?
