Might be worth trying a bit of pressure on BBC4, they did such a good job last year[ flatter them a bit]

Get the results as texts on your mobile as they are announced....

Be the first to find out who the winners are at this year's Folk Awards. Text FOLK to 88291 to sign up now, and on the night of the awards you'll receive the results direct to your mobile phone as they happen. More info:

Looks as though the Liege & Lief-era FC are to be joined by Sandy's daughter, Georgia....

This was posted to an email list by John Penhallow....

For those of you that haven't heard on the grapevine there will be a special award
presented to the L&L lineup and a live performance with Swarb, DM and Chris While
stepping into Sandy's Shoes as they play Matty Groves for the audience and the
Wednesday's broadcast of Folk on 2.

Kit Bailey, Mike Harding's Producer wrote to me in January and said:
"Fairport Convention's Liege & Lief have won the public vote for Most
Influential Folk Album of All Time and we have got together the original L&L
line-up. They will perform Matty Groves on the night and accept an Award.

I'd like to sound you out as to whether you think Georgia would like to come
over for the event? Simon said you would be the best person to ask if you
thought it would be something she could/would do.

The Awards are at The Brewery in London on Feb 6th."

So I put her in touch with Liz who's in London at the moment, and she contacted Georgia -
arrangements were made to look after the twins and Georgia arrived in London yesterday
for a 2 week visit and will be with the band to accept the award on Sandy's behalf
tomorrow. Chris While will be singing for Sandy which is a wonderful choice - I know she'll
give it her best.

This week's Daily Telegraph TV & Radio guide has a picture of the Chaps as per the FC website and reports Mike Harding's prog as 'Radio Choice'.

I've just asked a contact at Radio 2 and he thinks that BBC 4 are not covering this year's event.

Not there, folks - sorry. First year that I've not been.... Cry Cry

But the chaps ask me to post this.....

At about 11pm tonight (Monday), Fairport hopes to be able
to post a brief report from the annual BBC Radio 2 Folk
Awards on the website at:

http://www.fairportconvention.com/news.htm

But it depends entirely on them getting access to the
internet from the Awards venue. Worth a look anyway.

And it's defintely not on BBC4.

Firstly I would recommend the link suggested by Chris to Fairport site to read about last night's Awards Show.

Secondly , thanks to pauled  for the reminder to vote in the Awards as I was lucky enough to win the trip to The Brewery to see the Show.

Listen to the show on R2 on Wed 8th and you will not be disappointed.

The L&L lineup were great with special honours to Chris While & the amazing playing from Dave Swarbrick...Lazarus indeed as he gained cheers & applause in both numbers.

The whole band past & present went down a storm.

On the Folk Awards website there is going to be a photo gallery & possible live clips.

A BBC2 Newsnight crew were following Richard Thompson for a  probable Thursday night report.

Nigel Schofield & Neil Wayne introduced us (me 'n' ms.jamesiegang) to Chris Leslie at the end of 'Meet On The Ledge' which was a fantastic bonus.

Again the whole show (7-9 pm) with Mike Harding will be a good listen.
