It's probably the only time I've ever welcomed a Facebook sponsored advert.  Most of the best tickets had already gone by the time I got in, but, hey, who cares  :) How did you hear about it, Andy?

Simon Nicol kindly tagged me in a post announcing it. It was booked within 10 minutes :-)

By the way, I do have a plus one (I bought two on impulse but my other half can't get down), so if anybody here, or you know of anybody here who wants one, do drop me a line...

She doesn’t need to ‘get down’...it is Robert Plant, not  Kool and the Gang! ( other funk bands are available)  ;D

Aww, I would come along if we still lived in Powys...love Carmarthen, my man and I met there at college.

Where's that Sam Hutchinson? She's local to the venue...  I bet she'd bite yer arm off to go

She's in the mix now (via one of our own), Bridget.  There's a few people (friends and acquaintances) who are mulling it over to see if they can make it, but hopefully it'll get sorted soon  :)

Wish I could...I remember my niece came with me to Cropredy one year and Robert Plant was on...I said he was a legend and she told me he was not, but the lead singer from Busted was a legend! She is 26 now and may regret saying that  :)

Anyway, I still think he is a living legend and can’t wait to hear about the concert afterwards!

I found out the problem! There’s a Led Zeppelin tribute band playing at The Pavilion in Llandrindod Wells on 12th April!

I expect everyone’s got tickets for that and can’t afford Percy in Carmarthen  ;D

Great news, Bridget! Hope you CAN go  :)

There was a bit of a discussion on recent gigs, Lorna.  Robert really enjoying himself...tip top band.  Awesome female vocalist.  A very mellow vibe... Low covers, Moby grape covers, lots of Apalachian style stuff.  I Bid you Goodnight.  It was fab.  Others were less impressed I think....

It's all about expectations. Those who expected a bit of head-banging Zep were sorely disappointed.

I hope they bring out an album. I’d definitely buy it

I remember Band of Joy not going down well at Cropredy cos MrPlant wanted todo fairly obtuse 60’s B sides.
People , for reasons I failed to understand, seemed to expect him to do Zeppelin songs.
I was listening to a Space Shifters album today , that I go back to a lot. He has to be admired for not living in the past but always trying new stuff.
As opposed to Jimmy Page bringing out another new edition of a 45 year old album......

Priory of Brion, you mean...? Watching PoB live (saw them 4 times + Cropredy, I think) were some of the best live experiences of my life.  It had already outgrown itself by the time they did Cropredy anyway...I think it may even have been their last performance?

Lol ;D  To see one of the most famous rock singers of all time in a tiny home venue with his latest exquisite band?  You've not been paying attention recently....relative nobody's charge £32.50 a pop these days....and proper stars charge what they want.

I must admit that when we saw Robert Plant in Carmarthen in 2019, Wendy and I were unimpressed*. Self-indulgent was the term that came to mind.

I certainly wouldn't be forking out £32.50 per ticket. He's a multi-millionaire and most of the rest of us are definitely not, especially after the last 18 months.

* Others' opinions may differ, of course.

Horses for courses and all that, but I think yours is about the only negative artistic opinion I've ever heard about Saving Grace (apart perhaps from those who mistakenly go and think it is a Robert Plant gig, which it patently isn't).  I'd be amazed if Percy's making any money out of the venture at all... £32.50 really is not an expensive ticket in 2021 (and I moan a lot about expensive gig tickets).

ps and fwiw, Led Zep tickets in 2007 cost £125 (or £177.36 at 2020 prices).  And Led Zep tickets in 1971 cost £1 (or £14.46 at 2020 prices).  I know this proves precisely nothing  ;D

If anyone wants to get really aerated about ticket prices, go and have a look how much a ticket for Genesis costs  ;)

Genesis lack significant original musicians, as do the Eagles. Both expensive for tribute bands.

Mine is not the only negative "Saving Grace" opinion that I have heard, but I know you liked it, so, great for you, David.

From Suzi:

One of the members of the touring party for Saving Grace has been contacted by NHS Track and Trace and is now having to self-isolate.
This unfortunately means that the performance due to take place at Town Hall on Monday 2nd August 2021 will no longer be possible.
We are working with B:Music to find an alternative date. Please wait to be contacted by B:Music box office for further details
Thanks in advance for your understanding, and our apologies for any inconvenience that may have been caused.

I assumed that once he got another project going (in this case the album with Alison Krauss) this would, like Priory of Brion before it, die a speedy death.  It seems not.  We will see....

This seems to suggest it might:

https://ledzepnews.com/2021/10/17/robert-plant-played-a-surprise-show-with-saving-grace/

"Plant’s decision to perform with Saving Grace again, just a month before his second album with Alison Krauss will be released, is a potential sign that he intends to return to playing with the band after he finishes touring with Krauss next year.

LedZepNews reported in August that Plant seemingly has big plans for Saving Grace after he made the rare decision to trademark the band’s name for music and merchandise."

We're in Warrington to do the family Christmas visit the week before this, otherwise I'd sneak off for a few hours and go!

The Parr Hall is a great venue, saw Fairport there back in 2006, worst I've ever seen them. It was clear they weren't getting on at the time, or at least Peggy and Simon weren't. First time I saw PJ Wright too - he was great!

I "think" it was the Parr Hall where I saw the Albion Band (with Cathy LeSurf, JP Rasle & co).

(My maternal grandmother's family - the Holmes (Holmeses?) - came from Warrington).

I have been to the Parr Hall twice and it was a good venue, however, the last time was a good while ago. We struggled to find anywhere to get a bite to eat before the gig and had to settle unfortunately for a Macdonalds. That was the day before it was blown up by the IRA!!

:(  :( my sister-in-law's office overlooked the square where it all happened, and lost windows. Luckily she was out on a job as her desk was right next to the window.
