Hi Maart

I was just wondering about playing in unusual time signatures.  I'm fine with what I consider "normal" ones, e.g. 2/2, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/4, 6/8, 9/8, but I find things like 7/8, 15/16 much more challenging.  Do you have any tips to share for mastering unfamiliar time signatures - or is it just down to practice and / or exposure.

Regards

Jon

Hi Jon

It's exposure and practice. In eastern Europe people dance in 15/16 etc and find it natural. 4/4 is probably the hardest to play because everyone knows how the beat should go. There was a tune we played with WAZ!, Right In The Balkans, which is in 15/16 then goes to 4/4 the last time round. That was very difficult to slip into four after a couple of minutes 15/16...

Three Left Feet by the way started off in 13/8 time and settled into a cosy 6/4
