Listening to John Cordon and I think this is one of the finest Simon Nichol's vocals of recent times that I know. It tests his range and ability to convey the emotion of a moving song. There may be others I haven't heard so happy to hear what others think.

I actually asked him at the time if he’d been taking lessons, however he put it down to a relaxed environment and a healthy lifestyle. I agree, the journey between ‘Breakfast in Mayfair’ and ‘John Condon’ gives every aspiring singer hope.

I think music loses some of its appeal when you theorise too much about it, although everyone is entitled to an opinion. (I love the song by the way). Also the best singers dont always make the best music. I love listening to Andrew of Merry Hell for example but would never claim he is the best singer. Two singers with exceptional voices but who were incapable of injecting any feeling or emotion were Karen Carpenter and Mama Cass. Mama Cass's vocal delivery is akin to Ken Bruce reading lyrics on Popmaster.
For the record IMO, and its only my opinion, by far the best singers in "our" genre are Iain Matthews and Edwina Hayes, but there are plenty of great vocal performances by those who are not their equals.
