A sad loss. I regret not seeing the Moodies classic line up live; although they made some good stuff after Mike left, nothing matched up to their "core 7" albums. |

The Cropredy set was Great. He also did the first Swarbaid The '91 Cropredy was just about the perfect one for me. I've seen lots of acts at Cropredy I enjoyed more but it held together really well over the day and half. Really cohesive lineup (which must have cost about 2% of what the current ones do). And that Fairport set was one for the ages. |

RIP Steve Albini.
Producer of albums by Nirvana, The Pixies, PJ Harvey, Page & Plant, and many more.
Described himself as a "recording engineer" rather than a "producer". Used organic and old-school recording methods wherever possible. Kept a grounded ethic by working on recordings for a set fee rather than royalties as uninterested in the greater machine of the music industry.
An outspoken sonic guru, provocative, always had something interesting to say about the current state of music. The kind of auteur who held opinions you wouldn't necessarily agree with, but would defend his right to hold.
Another interesting and talented character leaves us...going to listen to PJ Harvey's "Rid Of Me" album in his honour.

Saxophonist David Sanborn, age 78, from prostate cancer.
He played on everything from "Young Americans" to "Still Crazy After All These Years." I fondly remember when Sanborn was a regular Friday night addition to David Letterman's studio band, and occasionally took over when Paul Shaffer was elsewhere. (Of course, they always played "Young Americans" when he was present.) He was an incredibly tasteful player, and I will miss him.
