I first saw Bill playing bass, not drums, with The Humans (Toyah, Fripp, Bill, Chris Wong) at a gig in a church near Cheltenham. Since then, a few times with KC, where he handled drums, keyboards, and finally "fairy dusting" - FX and processing. It's so sad, his wife Frances a died not that long ago. RIP Mr Bill.

I think we all knew that was coming, but devastating news nonetheless. RIP Bill...a musical giant.

Indeed... Also recently departed: Eric Weissberg, best known for "Duellin' Banjos" but had a long and varied career; he was 80 and he lived with Alzheimer's in his latter years.

Not someone any of you would probably know but I've just learned that Sim Watson, my violin teacher at primary school in Edinburgh, died just a few weeks shy of his 100th birthday in Nov 2018. There is a bit of a Fairport connection as one year Mr Watson gave me a book of Scottish fiddle tunes called Kerr's Merry Melodies. My mum used to play piano and I have fond memories of actually enjoying my violin practise when mum and I would play tunes like The Deil Among The Tailors. The FC connection is that when I saw Swarb's Lazarus one year in Kendal Swarb had his own book of tunes he was trying to flog to punters along with cds and the cover reminded me of the Kerr's book. I think I might just treat myself to a copy of it for old time's sake https://www.eaglemusicshop.com/prod/scottish-music-books/kerr-j-kerrs-first-collection-of-merry-melodies.htm

Krzysztof Penderecki, 86, not from Covid19, but after a long and serious illness. I remember borrowing an LP of his music from our local library and being simultaneously bemused and intrigued...
