Very sad I was/am a huge fan of The Stranglers. As others have said, that keyboard sound defined them. Will listen to each of their albums in sequence tomorrow. RIP Dave I had to listen to Feline yesterday after hearing the news. Dave's keyboards really dominated that album and that was the first tour I saw them on. Followed that with The Raven and this morning it's been In The Night. There's a nice posting by Captain Sensible on his Facebook page. I didn't know Dave and his wife ran a pub near Ely but did know about his love of fancy rats. It's all so very, very sad. |

And a folk(ish) connection - she recorded Nick Drake's 'Mayfair' in 1970 - one of the only artists to cover one of his songs in his lifetime. |

Great singer and writer, Brian Howe.
His version of Bad Company was excellent , if very different to the original line-up. Had a bit of a Foreigner vibe about them.

He was best known for Was (Not Was) ("Walk the Dinosaur"). We saw him live several times through the 2000s singing with Lyle Lovett's and Bonnie Raitt's bands. R.I.P. to a great soul singer.

I know his name from Iggy Pop's Brick by Brick album as he sang backing vocals on a couple of tracks. The album was produced by Don Was. "He was the most flamboyant character I ever met," Was recalls. "It was three in the morning and we walked out into the hallway and he's wearing this orange ensemble -- hat, shirt, socks and shoes all matched the exact same shade of orange. Coming out of that dark control room, it looked like he was on fire." |

Jerry Lee might have a little something to say about that...  Good age though...RIP Mr Penniman I sometimes wish I liked 'rock and roll' music from the 50's more, but I really don't. I can absolutely see it's critical importance to what came after, of course, but I really don't enjoy it... |

The thing is with Richard is that he was so much more than a 50s rock 'n' roller. He was a force of nature. Charisma for days. Watch and listen to him induct Otis Redding into the Hall of Fame.
