What were the Beatles lyrics like on their second? There's three of them and they must have a combined age of about 160-170! And weirdly, neither of them seem to write like this in other contexts. I can take platitudes about love and peace - it's the political posturing through inane lyrics that depresses me. They're on 'my side' clearly but like Neil's latest protesty stuff it just makes me cringe. I saw BWP before their first album and I think they're brilliant live but I'm struggling with this one... |

I saw your post about this elsewhere...and I'm glad. For some unknown reason, despite knowing and loving Fashionably Late since it came out I don't actually know this album. So I listened yesterday and it is as good, if not better than its predecessor. What a beautiful voice she has/had. |

Can't find this edition on Discogs, so I don't know the year. I'm pretty sure it's official- I remember it being discussed on these boards some years ago.
Anyway, it's very nice, and I don't know why i don't play it more often. A psych-folk jewel.

This really is turning out to be a cracking month. After the releases from boygenius and Bennett, Wilson, Poole, I have now listened to the newies from Allan Clarke, Reg Meuross and The Young Uns, all of which are excellent. I await with interest the latters' appearance in the field to see how they cope in the open air to a big crowd. I suspect David Eagles will have them eating out of his hand very quickly, and Sean Cooney must be our best young songwriter and he tackles such interesting subjects with aplomb.

Judy Dyble : Anthology volume 1 (Earth Records LP, 2015).
I dithered over buying this for ages then went for it. I'm pleased with my purchase- the home recordings aren't very interesting, but the rest is very good, except maybe that 'improvisation' with our Richard. Love the GG&F tracks.
I wonder if volumes 2,3 etc(?) will ever appear as LPs?

I've recently discovered The Wailin' Jennys, a Canadian trio who have been around for a while, but have passed me by. Beautiful harmonies/arrangements, with a mixture of original and traditional songs. Currently listening to their 2004 debut album '40 Days'. Very nice.

The new Bennett Wilson Poole, my vinyl copy of which arrived yesterday.
It is a warm wallow in nostalgia isn't it? The first track took me right back to hearing Diesel Park West for the first time 30 or more years ago. It may be my favourite song of the year so far.

Something new to me - “Drumrolls for Somersaults”, the first album from Martin Harley - blues & slide guitarist extraordinaire. So far, very laid back, very Friday  Saw him last night and I think he’s going to become part of my regular listening repertoire  |

I think it's great when you latch onto something new , especially if it's a little out of your comfort zone , it's easy to stick with the well trodden , much loved classics that you've grown up adoring and bought the 6xcd remastered boxset of....
