I am wondering how much further to delve if the reissue campaign continues. They have reached the concept album era and none of them seem to have a great reputation.
I'm a fan of Preservation, especially the largely unloved Act 2, but that's the stop where I get off. Jules |

As a youngster I bought "Supersonic Rocket Ship" on 7" just as it flirted with the charts around 1971 , but didn't buy any RCA albums until I saw the Kast Off Kinks 46 years later .
Like Jules I've not been tempted very far into the RCA material , just Muswell for me , and I've got an expanded 2CD for that and Everybody's in Showbiz
Schoolboys in Disgrace ? Is it a lost classic worthy of a 5 CD boxset at £150. Not for me

Fairport Convention : Heyday (Hannibal LP, 1987).
I bought this when it came out and I still find time for it, when I'm on a Fairport session.
Fairport Convention : Full House (Island 'pink rim' LP, 197?).
One of the first Fairport albums I bought, from a bargain bin in a small record shop, back in the dim and distant 70s. The lack of Sandy on this one bothered me more then than it does now.

Pootling around south Kent for the last few days on holiday with a selection of music in the car.
The album that really cut through was Toast by Neil Young & Crazy Horse. Absolutely first class. It really is a lost (until now) classic.
Other Selections were:
Sounds of Summer - The Beach Boys
Swarbrick - Dave Swarbrick
The Hunter - Blondie
Youngblood - Carl Wilson
Autoamerican - Blondie
The Buddah of Suburbia - David Bowie
Bob Marley & The Chineke! Orchestra
Later today I will be taking a first listen to Fairport Convention Live At Rockpalast.

Nice to finally have an official release from this line up. The sound is great. The playing is mostly tight but the material is unfortunately not amongst their best, largely being taken from the Gottle O'Gear album, which is reflected in the muted response from the audience whose appreciation of Sir B McKenzie is significantly (and rightly) louder than for any other song. Never mind, the new McNabb has just dropped through my letter box.  |

I have been listening to Lindisfarne's final studio album 'Promenade' - weird to think it was released 20 years ago. A great album with some absolute classics on it. My personal favourites being 'This Too Will Pass' and 'This Guitar Never Lies' - Rod Clements has always been a really good songwriter and these two songs are fine examples of his skill.

As for Quo, Piledriver was a favourite when it came out in 1972. Not sure its appeal has been sustained, though. Gerdundula from 1971's Dog Of Two Head is still a favourite, though.

Agreed. Promenade and its predecessor, Here Comes The Neighbourhood are terrific additions to Lindisfarne's catalogue. Rod's solo albums are well worth a listen, too. Off to see them again next month. Always great value for money. |
