Supertramp : Crime of the Century (LP).
Sounding great through my brand new loudspeakers. I've loved thi s album forever. I saw them on the COTC tour i think. Strangely i never followed Supertramp after this album. It,'s pretty near perfect.

Yes, pretty much their apex as far as I'm concerned, although a Breakfast in America comes close second.

First listen to the 2025 remaster of Buckingham Nicks, freshly downloaded from 7digital.
I've had a vinyl copy for a long time, digitised for listening, and this new edition has been remastered as well as you could wish for, I'm hearing little details I hadn't been able to hear previously...
An essential piece of the puzzle for all fans of Lindsey & Stevie - it shows the effect they had on Fleetwood Mac, and with hindsight, you can hear from their contributions the effect Fleetwood Mac had on them...

Atomic Rooster : Death Walks Behind You (Sanctuary CD, 2004).
One of my few concessions to heavy rock. And a great sounding CD.

Jack the Lad - The Old Straight Track; Amy McDonald - This is the Life; Alan Hull - Pipedream. I haven't played any of these albums in ages, so it was nice listening to them again. I can't believe Amy McDonald's debut album was 17 years ago!

Surprised and saddened she never made it bigger. Would have smashed Cropredy. That album's a classic, as is Pipedream. Happy memories of Jack the Lad as well, though I've nothing physical from them.

Jethro Tull : Aqualung Live (CD, 2004).
Long long time since i played this last and it comes across surprisingly well. It was performed in front of a small audience and all proceeds went to homelessness charities.
A reissue has just been announced- 2 formats. This reminded me it has been in my collection a long time.

Jack the Lad takes me back. They were from my part of the world and were imo better than Lindisfarne.

I think Jack the Lad were a fantastic band. Their first two albums were excellent. It was interesting that Billy Mitchell joined Lindisfarne after Alan Hull died and stayed with them for 8 years, when they disbanded. He was/is a great front man.
I just realised I spelt Amy MacDonald's wrong (missed out the 'a')

Possibly controversial opinion sharing here.
I was listening in the car today to two 1973 offerings from ex-Beatles.
John Lennon's Mind Games and Paul McCartney's Band On The Run.
What a difference; Mind Games is really whiny to my ears, even the title track is pretty poor, IMHO.
Band On The Run has some genuinely great tunes, not least of which is the title song, plus Picasso's Last Words, Jet and Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five (IMHO, of course).
It could be said that Macca's album is somewhat vanilla, I agree with Charles Shaar Murray, who said "Band On The Run is a great album. If anybody ever puts down McCartney in your presence, bust him in the snoot and play him this. He will thank you for it afterwards".
By contrast, Jon Landau of Rolling Stone magazine assessed the songs on Mind Games as "his worst writing yet" and considered that Lennon was "helplessly trying to impose his own gargantuan ego upon an audience ... [that] is waiting hopefully for him to chart a new course".
I pretty much agree with that, I await contrary opinions with interest.

No controversy. It has long been accepted that Band on the Run is by far the better album, but anyone thinking Mind Games was John's worst yet obviously hadn't heard the trainwreck that is Some Time in New York City.
Oh and my favourite track on Band on the Run is Let me Roll It. I'm betting John wished he had written that one!

As I said elsewhere, I've never heard SINYC, but I will make the effort to hear it, one day.
Let Me Roll It is just one of the classic tracks on that album I like.

Lennon is the only Beatles or related music i listen to. Mind Games can't touch Imagine ,but there are a few good tracks. I have the MFSL CD and it can sound rather shrill.

Curved Air : Second Album (WB encore CD, 2008).
I like the single of course - dates back to a time when singles by 'progressive' bands were briefly a thing. But i can't make my mind up about the album as a whole. Something held back, things don't quite gel. They get a lot of respect in the prog community. I saw them as part of a double bill with Renaissance a few years back and it was a good evening.

I had a Rush day yesterday for my birthday - started with Signals (the first Rush album I bought when it was new), then listened to the Rush 50 compilation, and finished with Permanent Waves.

I only ever saw them the once, on the Signals tour. I listened to a load of stuff for the first time in decades a couple of years ago...I think Signals is as late as my tastes permit (although I quite enjoy the last live album).

Incredible String Band : Nebulous Nearnesses (CD, 2004).
Recorded live before an invited audience @ Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios in 2003. 100 of the faithful attended, and i was one of them. Mike once said, and he's not a cynical guy, that the ISB had become their own tribute band. Admittedly, this is mainly of interest to die hard fans, but a couple of the versions here are heart- stoppers.
