Trying to be young!

« on: October 08, 2020, 02:16:24 PM »

I think this may have been suggested somewhere else but, to help relieve my boredom of not being able to go to gigs etc., Iím planning to buy some merchandise/music from artists that may be struggling to survive in the current climate. Iíve already formed a short list of people Iíve seen and have little by them but Iím hoping for some suggestions from TAW members of other artists that might be of interest. Obviously Iím trying to avoid the mega bands as they are more likely to survive. Just an idea since money that I wouldíve spent at gigs can now be spent on a helpful pursuit...and I get stuff to enjoy too †Grin

Chris have you got the Granny's Attic albums. They are fantastic live, Cohen's voice is just great, really hope this young band can survive. Folky talent ooze from this band! Can't wait to see them again.

They're fab - but on disc, I think Cohen's solo album is, I think, the best of the bunch... https://www.grannysattic.org.uk/product/outway-songster-cohen-braithwaite-kilcoyne-solo-album/

I've ordered a cd from Mikey Kenney who used to gig around the Lancaster area with his band Ottersgear and play with Dan Haywood but these days he's based in Liverpool and concentrates more on his fiddle playing. He, like so many others, must be struggling as I think playing live has been his main source of income.

As he says on his website, "Music will continue to dominate my time. Iíve been working on a new record and so that particular work in dusty, cobwebbed attics, bedimmed by sombre glows and sudden flashes, mystic, haunting melodies risen up from ashesÖ that particular work will continue as normal."  Cool

And if you want something louder check out Dan's band Pill Fangs.

Thanks Colin Iíll check him out.

Just bought stuff from Wille and the Bandits and Police Dog Hogan - both bands I really enjoyed at Cropredy in recent (-ish) years!

Still trying to help musicians out so Iíve bought the 7Ē single Stand By Me inspired by Bob Harris. Havenít heard it but donít care if itís no good, itís just me attempting to keep music going if and when we get through this pandemic!
