Fairport Convention today announced that their annual music festival, Fairport’s Cropredy Convention, has been postponed until August next year. The move is in response to the continuing Covid-19 outbreak in the UK.

The line-up of acts will be carried forward: artists booked to appear this year have agreed to switch to 2021. Highlights include Trevor Horn Band, Clannad, Steve Hackett – Genesis Revisited, Richard Thompson, Matthews Southern Comfort and host band Fairport Convention.

Festival Director Gareth Williams said: “We have no alternative but to postpone Cropredy until 2021. The safety of our festival-goers, performers, suppliers, crew and local residents must come first.”

Tickets purchased for Cropredy 2020 remain valid for the rescheduled festival and Fairport Convention hopes festival-goers will hang on to their tickets for Cropredy 2021. However, the organisers are of course offering refunds to those affected by the postponement.

“The postponement is a financial blow to Fairport Convention,” says Gareth Williams, “so we urge everyone to keep their tickets and join us for a great weekend of music in 2021.”

No surprise. Sad, but inevitable.Note: the transfer of tickets also applies to Warm-Ups.

Glad all the acts have transferred over to 2021! Something to look forward to; I can’t see anything going ahead this year that involves crowds.

Sad, but not really any surprise.

Does anybody know whether Field Eight tickets will also remain valid for 2021?

Very sad news, but not a real surprise, but I am happy about the acts all staying on for next year - I imagine getting that sorted is the only reason we haven't had an announcement sooner.

Oh well, inevitable really, but still a shame.

Colin - you'll have to reset the Cropredy countdown ticker (assuming it goes to figures >365 of course!)

I've got a Saturday ticket, which I'll hang on to. There's a slight possibility I won't be able to go next year (C-19 notwithstanding) but I won't know for definite for a few months yet...

In a way, I am relieved to hear this. It was only a matter of time anyway, and at least we know the same Festival is secured for next year.

Disappointing but not unexpected and I’m delighted the line up is staying the same. That’s a massive plus.

We need to do something on what would’ve been the Saturday night.

Sad, but the only reasonable decision.
On the positive side, to me this clearly shows how good a relation GW and the whole Fairport team have established to all the acts booked. It is not at all common and self-evident to be able to shift the whole package to another year.
Congrats to Gareth & team.

Very sad, but realistically it had to be.
The real sorrow for me is the realisation that this "thing" won't be "all over by Cropredy" as I have apparently been subconsciously telling myself.

I had not planned to go this year because of the (IMO) poor lineup, looks like I won't be going next year either.

Sad...but inevitable. Not only a blow to Fairport/Festival but The Brasenose &  Red Lion too.
Still no word on Beautiful Days & Green Man?  I can't see them going ahead either...

Cheers,

Sad, but inevitable under the circumstances.

Big thanks to the organisers, it must have Ben an enormously difficult decision.

I just hope that we can all stay safe and enjoy a huge party on that field next year.

I hadn't been able to make 2018 and 2019, so I was looking forward to to 2020. Oh well, as others have said, it's sad but inevitable. Roll on 2021
