Sad news from Miranda Sykes of Show Of Hands, etc. on Facebook

Hi everyone,
Well what can I say; I have had a tough few weeks. I have been diagnosed with breast cancer. As you can imagine this has come as an enormous shock to myself and my family. I was going to wait and make this announcement once we knew more (I am awaiting a CT scan before I start treatment in the next couple of weeks) but keeping it to ourselves is exhausting us. We are going to need your support, especially as we have Wilfie to think about throughout this.
I donít know how my treatment is going to affect my current solo tour but I fully intend to do every gig I can and in a couple of weeks this will be without my hair!!! Steve and Phil are very kindly keeping the option open for me to join them as and when I feel able for the 4 piece gigs for the rest of the year as well. My nurse specialist is working with me to explore how this can happen over the next few months. I will know my pattern of how I will feel once I start treatment. From now on, my Manager Vicky will be looking after this Facebook page and will pass on any messages. I have to concentrate on my recovery. I look forward to seeing you over the next few months and hopefully in a field somewhere over the Summer!!!
Miranda xxx

Awww, bless her.  Long term survival rates with breast cancer are very impressive these days (my other half is diagnosis + 14 years).  Here's hoping she helps add to the positive stats.

Tough times.

For what it's worth, Miranda will be in my prayers and and I truly hope that she makes a full recovery.

As David suggests, as awful as it is, breast cancer needn't be fatal these days. With a bit of luck and lots of love, she'll will make it through this!

A lovely and talented woman, I hope Miranda makes a full recovery. A friend of mine was 36 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, about 16 years ago, She had a double mastectomy, which she endured bravely and is now fully recovered. Hopefully Miranda won't have to undergo that kind of treatment, but fingers crossed she'll pull through.

Miranda has stated that she will do a gig at 7:30 Saturday evening, and will stream it.

She is wonderful solo, as well as a rock behind Show of Hands.

Fab gig on Facebook this evening. Especially enjoyed the covers of songs by Karine Polwart, Roger Wilson and Nancy Kerr & James Fagan. She said there were over 1000 people watching at one point.

Hoping all goes well with her treatment which starts in a few day's time.

That was wonderful. Don't know how she didn't cry, I was close.

Figures peaked at 1.2k.
