Happy feet!!!!

That'll be fun.  I was lucky enough to see Big Star - basically Alex and Jodie plus The Posies at the Mean Fiddler in London in 2001.  And, despite being one of the most scarily overfull gigs I've ever been to, it was brilliant.

Lucky indeed, David.

I regret having missed those oportunities (although I did see Alex back in the '80s before the reboot).

Honestly, while I liked Big Star from the first listen, I've grown evermore fond of them as time has passed. Nostalgia for being 13 out in the streets certainly plays a part, but its also for the Replacements, REM, Let's Active and the whole used record store culture that served it all. And once "I got" Third, there was turning back.

I just happened to have been listening to the Thank You, Friends tribute show, and on a whimsy, did a search on the web and found these shows!  Hearing Ira sing Take Care might have trigger the whole process towards my devotion.

The mighty Doobie Brothers are in the U.K. as we speak:

Jul 11      Glasgow, United Kingdom
OVO Hydro
___________________________________
Jul 13      London, United Kingdom
Hyde Park
________________________________________
Jul 15      Manchester, United Kingdom
Co-op Live
________________________________________
Jul 17      Birmingham, United Kingdom
Utilita Arena Birmingham
________________________________________
Jul 19      London, United Kingdom
The O2
________________________________________
Jul 21      Dublin, Ireland
3Arena

This incarnation of the band features original singer/guitarist/songwriters Tom Johnston (Listen to the Music, China Grove, Long Train Runnin') and Pat Simmons (Black Water), plus the return of Michael McDonald (Takin' it to the Streets, What a Fool Believes, Minute by Minute). Longtime string man John McFee (joined 1979, left 1982, rejoined 1992) is along for the ride, as well. It doesn't get more authentic than this. Check them out if you can.

Speaking of the third record, this is well worth a watch...

Thanks for sharing, Jules.  An excellent study.  "All so probable" is potentially the keystone to the whole ball of wax.

Plumhall in Leeds this Saturday.  Despite owning their albums I feel this is when I become a proper fan being the first time I have actually paid to see them rather than catching them as a support.

If anybody wants three tickets for King Creosote in Liverpool Anglican Cathedral next Wednesday 25th, I've got 3 going cheap.  Cost £32.50 a pop - yours for £20 each.  PDF tickets.

We're going to see him in Kendal on Friday. It's sold out but I'm wondering if there may be some empty seats. A friend here in Lancaster has been trying to sell her tickets.

We've also got a gig on Sunday - Miranda Sykes & Hannah Martin over in Settle.

3 slightly different interpretations of what to be done from our party (I was a definite 'fuggit', I'm not going to that now), but this was the ultimate conclusion

Last Sunday:

Heart, at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, Texas! Great new band, great song selection (including deep cuts), and awesome covers of Zep's "The Ocean" and "The Rain Song." What's not to like?

Next up:

Jon Anderson and The Band Geeks, June 25, at the Paramount!
Surf City All Stars (Alan Jardine and David Marks), July 20, at the Riviera Theater near Buffalo, NY!
The Swell Season (Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova), July 23, at the Kodak Center, Rochester, NY!
Weird Al Yankovic, July 31, at the Bass Concert Hall!
Peter Noone, August 7, at the Haute Spot!
Gillian Welch and Peter Rawlings, August 18, at the Paramount!
Fairport Convention (and maybe Richard Thompson), August 23-30, somewhere in the Adriatic Sea!

That's an odd pairing, isn't it? How many other people have toured with their replacement in a band?

Tim Minchin.

A good friend who is a wheelchair user is taking me. I get in free as companion/carer.

I know nothing about  TM but every time i mention the upcoming gig  people's faces light up and they tell me I'm lucky to be going.

Just for absolute clarity, it's the more recent band The Manfreds (as opposed to Manfred Man)

I’ve read that Al and David briefly played together in the early band, but Al was gone before their first recordings and then brought back as David’s replacement. Marks has been in and out of the BBs as a special guest since Carl died, joined the 50th anniversary tour, then was in and out of Brian Wilson’s band (which always included Al). I think Marks is managing a chronic illness such as hepatitis, which affects his stamina.

BTW the musicians bio says all of this band have played with Brian or the BBs at various points since the 1980s, so there is some authenticity here. As a bonus, I don’t have to give money to Mike Love or Bruce Johnston (whose politics do not align with mine).

This is how Al's band is being marketed in Oz and in Europe, I think.  I assume it's the same band but sans Marks?  Maybe not...
