No idea why, but i also enjoyed them much more this time than last. I'm starting to think the mood you're in at the time might be a factor...

This must be the third or fourth time I have heard them and its the first time I have really enjoyed listening to them live.
They just seemed to be far more engaged and actually interacted with the audience, not something I have seen them do before. I was quite happy with the rockier elements even though I was not familiar with this facet of them. The stuff I did know was excellently played and it was a great way to finish of the evening.

i can't quote right now for some reason but totally agree with Diane! the Waterboys can be a bit hit and miss in my experience but this set was a hit, and we loved the backing singers!
The backing singers (and a lot of the set) made me think that Mike has finally added "Street Legal" to his Dylan cd's

Mike can sometimes have a bit of a sense of humour failure but this was not one of those times

Love everything they do (well just about) I thought they got the set bang on good mix of old and new. Backing singers brilliant not sure I’ve had a better Thursday in my life let alone at Cropredy !

I would say for me it was Leatherat, Pauline Black, and Quo. Despite the torrential rain. 2010 that was, and I think the Friday was even better.

I've seen The Waterboys (and Mike Scott solo) a few times, and I thought that this was one of the best sets they've played - perfect festival music, and great to see MS is such a good mood. I liked the way he parodied The Whole Of The Moon (which is a fantastic song, but can be a bit full-on) and was really impressed that, despite a huge back catalogue of his own work, he decided to end the set with a crowd-pleasing cover.

I wasn't in the field to listen to them the last time, so I stayed this time and thought they were very good. Nothing like they sound on the one album I've got, but its a very old one (with Whole of the Moon on it) so I guess I'm just used to them sounding younger ;-)
That's twice they've been at Cropredy in the rain now :-/

I love the Waterboys. I admit this was probably not the best set I had seen, but I enjoyed it. Loved Wraggle Taggle Gypsies Oh. Thought finsihing with the cover was inspired, and the pulled it off.

Superb. I didn't know most of the songs but I thought they were brill. Scott's vocal performance is so clear that you can actually understand what the blinking heck he's singing about. Excellent fiddle-player too. And Keyboards.

is this Wickham (again), or somebody else? Steve Wickham. As an aside. Do I remember Anthony Thistlethwaite playing with RT one year, or have I made it up?

That was 1991, they did North Country Girl from Maart's first solo album.
