To be honest I was disappointed.
I have seen them before and enjoyed them hugely but not this time. The early part of the set left me cold and I was wandering away by the time I heard songs I knew and liked. I suspect they suffered a bit from appearing after Gogol, what would ordinarily have seemed upbeat just didn't do so after the previous act.

I agree with the above. I like them when they do folk, but as a rock act they seem ordinary. Good version of JJF as an encore though.

Afraid I disagree entirely! The Waterboys were the highlight of the festival for me (and my two friends with me agree). Loved the set and bought the new album on the back of it. Stand out track for me was “In my Time on Earth” Thought they performed superbly and were a good antidote to the over-the-top antics of Gogol Bordello

Well our little group loved them. Yes recently they have gone really rock, but here they pulled back enough to give variety. Good humor and connected with the audience.

Mike Scott's vocals as great as ever. A joy, 9/10.

You were, its just any disagreement these days seems to end up in a slanging match. I wasn't being sarcastic, I was expressing a compliment!

I heard Nashville and Whole of the moon on the wireless, they sounded great, but the Chas & Dave interlude in moon was cringeworthy

Well, five years ago I expected to like them and didn't.  This time I wasn't sure what they'd be like, and in fact I enjoyed them much more.  This was a lot more like the set I'd hoped to hear the last time.  A good counterpoint to GB before them.

I loved them five years ago and this set was even better.
Absolutely brilliant.
A rockier set which I liked and the backing singers who helped with the vocals made for a much fuller sound and oh my god brother Paul on the organ....
When you look at it they are just a top notch band.
Again as with FT they got the festival, they really looked to enjoy themselves and it’s my opinion they felt a lot more at home this time around and part of the fairport vibe.
I’d love to see them again any time at cropredy
Thanks for a wonderful set.

The Chas and Dave bit was hilarious - to me. Mike Scott not taking himself too seriously 😁

To be fair, they were really rock well before the folk influences started creeping in on their third and most famously fourth & fifth albums. They sounded great on the radio.

Third time I've seen them and it never really clicked till this one. Really enjoyed the set, close call between RT and these for act of the weekend for me.

3/10. The noodling in Nashville was excessive and boring, prompting us to leave the Field.

i can't quote right now for some reason but totally agree with Diane!
the Waterboys can be a bit hit and miss in my experience but this set was a hit, and we loved the backing singers!
