I remember losing a few cassette tapes to the car cassette player , you remember when the sound suddenly wobbles and you know the unit's rollers are swallowing the tape up , and then using surgeon like precision to recover the tape , all chewed up , and then trying to spool it back in to the cassette . Or opening your cassette shell up like a bomb disposal expert , once you've located a small enough screwdriver , splicing out the mangled tape , trying to join it together again , realising that you've now edited out most of a guitar solo that you loved soooo much. Why didn't you use a headcleaner to get the oxide off the rollers ? Because people said they damaged the playback heads.

Hours of fun !

Currently re-reading The Rotters Club by Jonathan Coe and one of the characters is reading a women's tips column and this helpful suggestion was made-

'If a cassette tape breaks, don't throw it away,' wrote Amelia Fairney, from South Shields. 'The spools can be pulled out and the tape used as party streamers or for tying up presents.'

Just bagged a very cheap copy of an Island pink original of Nine.  Not in an original case though.  Does anyone have any Island Pink original cassette cases?  They are unlike any others, even from the same time...much thicker plastic than normal, and with equally thick grey or black backs to them....once seen never forgotten (well, if you're odd like me, anyhow).

I'd hate for the Daily Mail to prove my point, but, er, yeah  Wink Smiley

I've bought quite a few new albums on cassette in the last year - not just niche 1/50 type releases, but major ones too.  I'm looking forward to the Who's newie popping through the door soon...also No-Man etc etc

The Guardian had an article about it yesterday as well so you don't need to infect your browser with pages from the Daily Mail.  Grin

I have a few. They seem to be a glossy black plastic with part of them a grainy textured panel.
