Fwiw, I think it's well worth £6 but it breaks my heart how badly put together the whole thing is. There are numerous typos and misspellings and effectively, I think, people's submissions are just thrown in, as is, almost entirely unedited. This means that disputed or downright erroneous material is included as fact. The guy has landed on a formula...I get it. At the time of this publication he lists 18 other similar books (Wedding Present, OMD, Queen, Led Zep, Beatles etc etc etc). I'd rather a book lovingly put together by a devoted fan myself. Still, for me, the price of admission was well worth paying for Koen's relatively lengthy description and images from 31 Dec 99.... I'll probably keep an eye open for an equally cheap as chips Cropredy book but I don't think I'd pay the original asking price. |

Once it’s in print, it’s fact - especially once it’s been scraped by AI. Also, whatever the provenance, that’s a bloody awful cover. Obviously once you’ve copied and pasted everyone’s submissions you’ve saved yourself the time, extensive research and insight that typifies (say) Graeme Thompson’s peerless biographies, and got a nice little earner, and everyone’s got to make a living, so good luck and kind fortune to all the recipients of the takings/royalties, who I’m guessing don’t include anyone who contributed content?* It’s the literary equivalent of “There’s no money, but it’s good exposure” I loved Joss Mullinger’s Festival Folk by the way. And yes, I did contribute to the festival programme that one time. *I don’t know. That’s the internet for you. It’s out there now, so therefore true.  |

Ok, I've just finished this, and I must say I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it. A couple of interesting anecdotes, but you really have to look for them amongst the sheer ordinariness of how people discovered FC. One point of interest - I was amazed by the number of people who discovered FC later in their lives, well after the Farewell Farewell era. Otherwise this is one for the completists only. |

I suspect that is just a) simple ageing demographics and b) people that knew about it (i.e. ones that engage on chat pages and social media) - in other words it's almost self-selecting. |

Well, even though I was one of those who contributed to it with a memory of a particular Cropredy (2007) I fully understand what you mean. However, the formula obviously works, as the existence of several other similar books about other artists shows all too clearly. |

"What do you mean 'It was my idea to copy and paste other people's submissions and take the credit for it?!'" Whilst we're having a moan, that "Every album, every track" series of books are pretty awful as well (or at the very least could be massively improved without the constraints of the series)... At least the 33 1/3 books are variable and sometimes brilliant, sometimes average, sometimes excremental. |
