Dave Edmunds' four albums on SwanSong, featuring Nick Lowe and Rockpile: Get It; Tracks on Wax 4; Repeat When Necessary; and Twangin'...; such a joyful noise.

Houses on the Hill - Whiskeytown
Cripes, I didn't know that was still allowed... Here, I'm (well, I was yesterday) flitting between Pierre Boulez and Bellowhead. I thought you'd like that, Nick

Ryan has written some of the greatest ballads ever. Nothing that has happened away from the music can change that, but that doesn't mean approval or acceptance. I also love Caitlin and Phoebe to bits.

Bellowhead, live at Cropredy, 9th August 2012.
On top form. (Although I still dislike Little Sally Racket intensely)
No idea where the recordings came from.

Just been reading the latest Uncut with the bizarre 40 greatest NY songs, Ohio at 9, Southern Man at 11, Heart of Gold at 13, Needle at 14, Cortez at 20 and Hurricane at 21 - don't get it? Sugar Mountain at 1, Mr Soul at 2, Expecting To Fly at 3, Broken Arrow at 4 and Cowgirl at 5?

I have to agree. The rest of their arrangements work brilliantly, but that one just grates. Paul

Elton John Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, which I picked up in Oxfam yesterday (oh the simple joys of being able to browse again!), which I had never heard before, but I really enjoyed. Other than his Very Best of... album, the only album of his I'd owned before was Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
Now moved on to Big Big Train's new live album Empire which I picked up on Friday from Bandcamp. 3 songs in, and sounds excellent.

I'm familiar with those 2 , but now the family have picked up on his life story I'm tempted to dip back (not forwards though) and try Madman and Honky Chateau. Might be lots to enjoy away from the over familiar singles

Add Tumbleweed Connection to that list too. You can afford to go forward a little. Blue Moves is pretty good, if a little too long as double album. 21 at 33 is little known but excellent. The late era returns to his original style, Songs From The West Coast, Peachtree Road and The Captain & The Kid which is the sequel to Captain Fantastic are all very good. My guilty pleasure is Too Low For Zero, very poppy but consistently high quality. I have just finished reading Elton's autobiograohy which is a wholly entertaining R rated romp. I didn't realise he had suffered so much ill health in recent years.
