Not strictly a musician's question, but I wasn't sure where else to put it.

I've recently copied all my CDs to iCloud. Problem is, I can only access them when I have decent interweb access. This is OK at home, but no good if we're away in the caravan or just out and about.

Can anyone recommend a gadget that will allow we to store all my music (over 17,000 tracks at the moment with more very likely in the future!) and is reasonably portable. Something like an IPod but Ok if it's bigger and needs an electric supply.

Thanks!

A couple of  32gb USB memory sticks works for  me , also backed up on a hard drive or two.  Use my usb sticks in the car mostly, but you can get small radio/cd players and similar that will take memory sticks.  (1200+ Albums (box sets and double albums are counted as 1))

There are all sorts of options here, depending on what you already have access to. I use a 256gb micro SD card in my phone since Apple stopped supporting the Ipod Classic.

Otherwise something like this (for example) might be an option. https://www.amazon.co.uk/AP60-Bluetooth-Resolution-Lossless-Digital-Silver/dp/B06ZXW3TLC/ref=sr_1_9?s=network-media&ie=UTF8&qid=1544006585&sr=1-9&keywords=portable+media+player&refinements=p_n_feature_two_browse-bin%3A214402031

I'm a bit traditional, I keep mine on my laptop and back it up on my external drive. I have 64 Gb USB memory in the TV and the car.

I'm still using my 160 GB iPod classic (bought just as they announced they were discontinuing them, as my previous one was already a few years old), and hoping it will keep on working!

Excuse me for stepping in here, Brig. Al - that looks good for me who's trying to upgrade my old 8GB iPod nano - (ans would be a great hint for a Christmas pressie...) but will I be able to put my iTunes library over to it, or will Apple have all kind of fits with me?

You will be able to put all the music from your ITunes library onto it by copying (drag & drop) across the media files from the ITunes folder on your PC/laptop/wherever you currently store them. It will not work with ITunes software however so you will not be able to copy playlists etc (the ITunes Library XML file) onto it. The only portable media players that can use ITunes are Apple's own products.

That's what I was thinking, but thanks for confirming it. I'm most afraid of Apple losing things in a fit of pique when it notices I'm trying to take them elsewhere...

I have a friend who swears by this as a cheaper alternative. Has good reviews on T'internet too!

I use a 2TB USB3 external disk, which requires no power supply as it comes through the USB. I plug it in to the USB port on a dvd player, tv and in a car. Works fine. 94,869 tracks, fitting into 582GB. (I also keep movies on it).

That's also a good idea Andy. I'm liking the look of this one
