Oh right, so the band is their spare-time fun project? Fair enough then.

Do you not realise that most musicians have to hold down full time jobs these days? Those people who say you can make a good living being on the road selling merchandise etc have absolutely no idea how that works. A band will have to write the music , record it, have artwork done, manufacture it, and similarly for t-shirts and other memorabilia all financed by themselves before they can sell it to their audiences Then the venues frequently take a large percentage of the sales..

Unless you are at the stadium level it is impossible to earn enough as a musician to finance home, family, mortgage, electricity bill etc let alone the costs of touring and equipment and even if you are at stadium level the roadies, tour managers, agencies etc will take a huge chunk of any income before the band get their share..

So in effect the work of all musicians is currently a spare-time project...   Undecided

Why? Photography is a creative art and it's as hard to make a living from that as any of the others  Huh

Too true.  I used to have my tech problems sorted out by a guy who ran a very efficient computer company.  It was only after he died and I read his obituary that I learned that he was also a distinguished playwright and novelist, with plays staged by the National Theatre and the RSC.  He only took on his computer work to give his family a decent standard of living.

Great photo (from Facebook) of them playing a pub on a covered pool table the day after playing to thousands at Skeggy.

I've just popped in here because of a bit of Merry Hell-related Handbags on Facebook, and what do I find? A string of OT posts by several members of the TAW Illuminati! What gives?

On the subject of Merry Hell, I can take or leave them, so not really Marmite for me. I wouldn't go out of my way to see them, and I certainly wouldn't want to see them on the main stage, but it's not all about me, is it? Though in my opinion it should be......................................

Which I find odd, as you like Oysterband, and I find MH *much* closer to them than (say) FC.

Not asking you to justify or clarify that, just observing.
