Not long home from seeing Steve Winwood and Steely Dan at the Manchester arena. Stevie was great, he did a sort of best of set, 3 spencer davis group songs, lots of traffic and a smidgeon of his solo and blind faith stuff. Steely Dan were astonishingly brilliant, Freddie Washington is a monstrously great bass player and the drummer, whose name escapes me was utterly amazing, Fagen is cool as but the rest of the band, keyboards, guitar, 3 girly singers( the Danettes) and the 4 piece horn section were top notch. Possibly the most accomplished band I've ever seen, and the material isnt exactly shabby. Best 97 quid ive ever spent on a show.
Gulp! £97?!! Oh, but I would love to see Steely Dan.

The cost was the main reason why I didn’t book tickets for Wembley Arena this coming Monday although I was lucky to see both Becker & Fagen together at the same venue some years ago now. The gig then was worthwhile but they tended to wander into Dylan territory! By that I mean changing song arrangements so much it was hard to recognise what they were playing sometimes...I mean ‘Reeling in the Years’ without the wonderful guitar intro was just wrong

McGoldrick McCusker and Doyle at Nettlebed last night. Absolutely stunning. Wonderful interplay between the three of them. Hugely recommended if they are playing anywhere near you.

Alice Phoebe Lou and special guest Hi Fi Club Leeds Thursday 28th February
The special guest turned out to be none other than Saving Grace!
Fantastic set from Mr Plant and the band. You can tell he's really enjoying this project.
Couldn't believe I was only 6 feet away from him!!

Not a gig but an exhibition, "Bobbins" the Frank Sidebottom exh, at Central Library in Manchester, its on from last Friday until the end of April( i think), because its been a nice day and our Siobhan isnt well and she's at home with Rocco, the dog(we have him when shes at work, etc, etc). We went in on the metro, any excuse to use the free passes, but i would need a month to give the exhibits more than a cursory glance and there is mountains of video to watch, including full live shows and the various "Magical Timperley tours" videos where he escorted bus loads of fans round Timperley to see the sights including the famous twin post boxes "one for the right handers and one for the lefties", the Stonemasons and Timperley aquatics. I loved it and even Maura managed the odd smirk!!!! Chris Sievey was a musical, artistic and comedy genius. https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/whats-on/manchester-weekend-things-to-do-15885642

? You might try skipping my hyperlink and going through www.statesman.com to get to the entertainment section (Austin360) and then the Bob Seger review. I wonder if the Austin American-Statesman blocks non-U.S. users for some reason? I don't believe you have to subscribe to the Statesman to get this content, because I don't and I did.

Olivia Chaney at Cecil Sharp House. An amazing voice, if a little solemn. Almost more like a recital than a traditional gig.
A busy weekend coming up. Crufts tomorrow, then Pete Atkin on Sunday.

Big Country last night at Colchester Arts Centre were superb despite a slightly dodgy (muddy) sound mix. It looked they were thoroughly enjoying themselves unlike the rather dour and disjointed support, The Lamplight Club. BC got the small (300?) venue jumping and I liked the fact that they still name check Stuart Adamson, a nice touch I thought
