Just had a look at the details of the Horslips BBC set just posted on FB and I am underwhelmed. I love the More Than You Can Chew box and most of the extra discs in that box get played regularly, but most of this just doesn't seem all that special IMHO. What say the rest of you thinking about it?

I'm excited about it. I have never seen any of the material on the DVD or heard the early radio sessions & I don't have a physical copy of the concert with the orchestra (just a download) so I will be very happy to have all that stuff (though I concede the bonus audio disc is a slightly strange inclusion, more of an omission from the earlier box) and it is not overpriced for what it is, unlike some forthcoming box sets I could mention.

Fair enough! I would like the orchestra album for sure. Think I’ll wait to hear the reviews here though first!

I'm wondering what the Ulster mid of the show with the Ulster orchestra is going to add to the off air recordings and the CD of the event?
Most of the BBC in concert stuff is welcome but how much of the video will have already been available on  the " return of the dancehall sweethearts" dvd?I
Still, I'm getting it from Burning Shed who are currently the cheapest I've seen by about a fiver.

https://www.uncut.co.uk/news/nick-drake-a-five-leaves-left-box-set-is-coming-149483/

Even has shot of the box contents -all looks worth buying

Two major bones of contention:

1) The price is ridiculous, especially the CD version.

2) Why leave out songs such as Joey or Clothes of Sand? Yeah, we have them, but surely they belong here.

Jules

You're welcome.

I agree about the CD price,  but  100 quid isn't outrageous for 4 LPs  plus a book nowadays, imo.

Having paid 30 quid each or so for the individual boxed albums back in 2012 /'13, i have to decide whether i really need this, especially as it involves buying 5LL itself once again.  Much  as i love Nick Drake.

The CD price is insulting.  They'll make only a moderate profit on the vinyl, but an absolute fortune on the CDs.  As I've said elsewhere I'm both appalled and attracted by this box.  I'll almost certainly buy it though.  And almost certainly only listen to it once.  I realise I am ill.

I've been exceedingly on the fence about this since the announcement...but if you are I strongly recommend the very detailed Uncut article about this (July issue).  What swung me was Joe Boyd entirely changing his mind about it after hearing it.  Very negative previously, very positive afterwards.  So, after shopping around (I still think the price for 4 CDs is awful) I've jumped... ordered from Chalkys (£78 inc p&p) https://chalkys.com/products/nick-drake-the-making-of-five-leaves-left-cd?currency=GBP&variant=54214844678529&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google+Shopping&stkn=8190f037825a&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=17414081265&gbraid=0AAAAADLXObSNmMA1DZtrfVMqn6C07s1SJ&gclid=CjwKCAjwi-DBBhA5EiwAXOHsGTVaH438tmBLKAWs-6Lh_krD-uf_WaLtfQrASiAwyAZeXkUf8fRx-xoCv6gQAvD_BwE&fbclid=IwY2xjawKlAt9leHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETBDNzB0VHk2aWx1eWlwT3QwAR6JgEIZ2N6-atmSlo-lgekGnC_KVQiuH0FU26T0lTGHBqwMfIcOdiaKcEMvBw_aem_zj5jRdFzb_ZQyVo8NWBZcQ

I 'preordered'  the vinyl version on amazon. This gives me the option of cancelling if i have a change of heart or the price looks better elsewhere.  They still have it advertised at around  £120, which isn't competitive at the moment.

£91.98 on Chalkys.  I still think the differential between the CDs and the vinyl is absolutely appalling - the CDs cost about a quid each (max) to make whereas the vinyl costs about 5-10 times that.

I suspect Amazon will actually price match nearer the time, but they're leaving it rather late.

Is it a straight 're-release of the original album?

Pentangle : Solomon's Seal.

2CD edition from Cherry Red.

I have the Castle CD from 20 or so  years ago, but am excited about this as it contains lots of bonus stuff.  And the Castle CD, though much played chez moi,  doesn't sound great.

Don't hold your breath though - release date in October.

No official announcement yet, but this billboard has been spotted in Sunset Boulevard...

Buckingham Nicks, the 1973 duo album from Lindsey Buckingham & Stevie Nicks will apparently be reissued on September 19th. If this turns out to be true, this is wonderful news.

An album that's never been officially reissued or available on cd, making this potentially a landmark release. There are plenty of bootleg cd versions out there, fine bootlegs they are too, and you can purchase a copy on vinyl (I have a vinyl copy that I've transferred to digital for listening), but this will be the first time the Buckingham Nicks album has been officially reissued since 1973.

Fingers crossed an official announcement from the Stevie or Lindsey camp is imminent...

And in an unsurprising update to this story - it's been confirmed that their 1973 album will be reissued for the first time officially on cd and digital streaming platforms, and limited edition vinyl on September 19th...

Just as i was considering cancelling my order for  the Nick Drake box, amazon have said it has been dispatched. I can probably live without it, but will accept if it hasn't been trashed en route.

I'm not sure how much i need it, whatever need means  .  I've thrown a lot of  money at Nick Drake, and i wonder how often this set will get played. I think we had thus conversation  before, or similar  🙂

Forgot to mention :

The Sundays:  Static and Silence  on vinyl.

There's some excitement about this. The 1997  release was CD only, iirc.
