It’s not often you get a seasonal John Kirkpatrick cover. One for the folkies rather than the rockers...

Oh dear, oh dear.  Neil has gone so utterly rubbish.  Trite doesn't come even close.

Just the worst thing ever.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RKBUG9VLFU

Well, thanks for that David.

A thousand apologies.  It's beyond depressing, isn't it.  He's been slowly heading in this direction for 20 years, but the last 5-10 have been abject.  Really sad.

Trite lyrics, trite sentiment, going through the motions 'this will do' delivery.  I could go on. This is a man that wrote Ohio in a couple of hours.  He obviously still thinks he can do the same.  He can't.  I love the man, and I love his music (into the 90's), but this stuff makes 'Landing on Water' look complex and majestic by comparison.

What a shame. He's written some of my favourite music, I wonder what has made him go off?

Oh, mine too.  I adore virtually everything he did in the 60's and 70's although I find many people's favourite, Harvest, rather pallid to be honest - and actively dislike its successor Harvest Moon album.

With very few notable exceptions, most musician's very finest work is in their 20's.  His continued into his 50's.  He had a great run.  One of the things that makes this all so depressing is his productivity levels.  It's so much harder to ignore when there's another rubbish album every year (or more).

I think even Graham Nash would put that song in a file marked "possible B-side". I had to stop it after a minute. 'Let's Impeach the President' wasn't brilliant but this is just plain sad. Any more of this and I think it'll be time for him to hang up his guitar and enjoy his retirement.

Thompy sings Joni. Quintessential RT, for all of of his advocates and his detractors. Lovely shot of Ms. Mitchell toward the end really digging it. https://youtu.be/h54rRq2SAv0

Quintessential, indeed.  Genius.  The best version of Woodstock I've heard by a member of Fairport...  Wink Smiley  ps I enjoyed his look to her even more.

I don't know if this Mary Chapin Carpenter video has been reported - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BASy6-gDm8

Dave Mattacks in what I always considered to be her best ever band, saw them at the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith in November 1999. I remember a rather large gentleman who seemed to be at every gig I went to sold me his ticket - Mike was his first name.

I was pointed towards this today. The wonderful Jack the Lad in 1975 on the Whistle Test. Two songs (Rocking Chair and Gentleman Soldier) plus the Morris Miner Dance, or, as Billy Mitchell called it - 'Geordie culture'  Grin

For those not following this elsewhere, this is too moving not to share.  You'd have to suspect this will be Shane's last performance.  Happy 60th, Mr MacGowan.  Stick to the end.

Cait O'Riordan looks better 30+ years on than she did in the mid 80's!
Shane looks like they dug him up and put a bit of make up on him, badly.
