He's not a young man anymore, these things are bad enough for us when we are young but at his age it takes ages to get right, we don't bounce now.😮

Watching the Art Detectives series and in the second episode one of the mysteries is about someone who ate eels. As soon as it was mentioned, I remembered the explanation of the tune A Surfeit Of Lampreys on Jewel In The Crown regarding Henry I. Ever since then the phrase stuck with me and then sure enough…the reference was brought up as one of the clues. Folk music….its where history is at!

What a great time yesterday evening spending time with old friends Ric Sanders,Vo Fletcher,John Etheridge and Nigel Kennedy at The Crooked Billet in Henley on Thames.Nigel and John were performing their third and final night at the venue.Stunning music of course from the trio.The excellent Alec Dankworth completing the trio on upright bass.

Sad news re: Richard
From Gate to Southwell Festival. We are writing to share some unfortunate news regarding Richard Thompson, Friday's headliner. He has had a serious fall, resulting in three broken ribs. On doctor's orders, he is unable to perform and must take time to recover. We send Richard our heartfelt best wishes for a swift and full recovery.
We know this will be a huge disappointment to many of you – and we can assure you that we share that disappointment. We were incredibly excited to welcome him to our stage. Richard himself sends you a message: "I’m very sorry not to be able to perform at GTSF this year — I was truly looking forward to it. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope very much to make it to the festival in 2026 instead”

Did he fall, or was he pushed? Please tell me that I'm being oversensitive...... I'm sure the comment was posted with the best of intentions, but I don't find it particularly amusing in the circumstances. It can be tempting to try and make jokes based on a songwriter's lyrics or song titles but then this should have been "did he jump or was he pushed?" I suppose it's like gallows humour. I remember being shocked at a friend telling pretty sick jokes after Freddie Mercury died and he was a big Queen fan. Maybe it was just his way of coping with the sad event. But fortunately RT is still with us. So in this case it may be best to say, easy there, steady now and resist making comments about two left feet. Sometimes bad things happen to good people. |
